When people argue about low wages and a $15 minimum wage, the typical response is the low wage employee should just go back to school and learn a trade so they can earn more. Great idea but the low wage menial job still needs to be done by someone, so the newly trained worker will just be replaced by someone else.
Maybe 30% of full time jobs pay less than $15 an hour. Someone has got to do the low pay work, SO: Should the government pay welfare to the people who support a family on low income?
Free money is a great solvent, it dissolves incentive.
government needs to do a better job directing welfare instead of the indiscriminate carpet bombing taxpayer money across the world.
well, several people I know work 15 hours a day, 6 days a week, they work on average 2-4 minimum wage jobs. This way, they can afford a simple one bedroom apartment and a somewhat decent living. It is doable.
Since when is birth control not readily available, cheap, and even free to people on Medicaid?
you get married- all is lovely- then you have kids and then the shzt the fan?? where you supposed to know in advance?? and if you had 2 income you did not have Medicaid--
don't doubt that there are people who have extenuating circumstances that make them unable to rise to the occasion but its funny that as the entitlement programs have expanded there are more and more of those types of people....
and 30 yrs ago everybody could get a decent job!!!-- then they all whet to India -China -Bangladesh and robots -- what you want people to do then?
when DHL pulled out of the USA -and kept their business only Europe-- the entire towns where they had their exchange facility or shipping hub-- people were eating potatoes-- nothing else just potatoes for over a year- people had mtgs - jobs as tv announcers, grocery stores the city hall - kids in schools- it all dried up- and go where with what??
If you cant see, it- you just can't see it- if you cant even see the vets and military get foods stamps..
Americans go and die for your freedoms - and all you can do is push them down
The real question is this. Should government take food off one person's table and hand it to someone else?Answer: NO
If taxes would actually take food off your table, you wouldn't owe any taxes. Redistributions of income and wealth are meanwhile part of the core functions of any society. It's all supposed to flow from the more fortunate to the less fortunate of course, but the right-wing and selfish sociophobes have been doing everything they can think of to reverse the direction of those flows -- to the disgrace and detriment of American society as a whole.
There is absolutely no reason why low-income earners should be subsidized. Why can't they live within their means via the above suggestions? It CAN be done.
It can only be done within the phony constructs put forward by the corporate disinformation media. The taxpayer has to pick up the tab for food, housing, and health care for millions of low-wage people who in fact work full-time hours and more at one job or more. These subsidies simply go to create free resources in corporate coffers -- resources that then flow to the already wealthy through salaries, bonuses, and dividends. Those are the folks at whom we should be pointing the accusatory fingers. They are the equivalent of dog-walkers who don't bother with those little plastic bags. They don't care what you step in or what your child plays in. That's none of their problem. They hate you, yet you adore them.

McJobs should be for the acne teen years, not held by prime of life adults. These jobs should be held months, not years.
If wishes and buts were candy and nuts. There are almost as many minimum wage workers who are 25 or older with a spouse living at home as there are teenagers. What are you planning to do about the actual facts of the matter? In today's world, your bootstrapping Horatio Alger nonsense is exactly that.
If you can't afford to feed them don't breed them.
Hindsight cures all, I guess.
