So, I just wanna know.... How many of you do your "civic duty" and voluntarily give the IRS more money than required when paying your taxes, you know, for the troops.....?

Of all the fake, drummed up controversies, this HAS to be the most ridiculous I've ever heard. Is there anyone out there who doesn't do everything they can to pay as little taxes as legally possible? Is there anyone out there who doesn't look for every deduction or take advantage of every loophole available? Don't blame Trump for legally not paying any federal taxes ( if in fact that is the case )... blame the laws and the tax code that permitted him to do it, or better yet, blame the politicians who wrote it to begin with. It goes back to the old adage, don't hate the player, hate the game.

This is just more of Democrats doing what they do best; Creating a culture of victimhood ( i.e. why am I paying taxes and someone like him isn't ), railing against the rich and promoting class warfare, and purposefully sewing the seeds of division. It's pretty sad...

So if it was legal, what is wrong with what Trump did? Can someone please explain that to me?

I dont take charitable deductions. Its a philosophical thing. If you do it for the tax write off, then it isnt really charity.

As for your overall argument, this isnt some Democratic trick. Trump himself argued that the rich dont pay enough in taxes(or did we all just forget about the primaries ????)

Legality isnt the issue, it is whether or not he rich are paying their fair share, Trump himself said they arent.

I also have foregone charity writeoffs. Didn't bother writing off a 7K business loss one year. I have however claimed some decent deductions in some years as well. I've probably paid a few thousand more then required in my lifetime. And about average for my incomes throughout.

I COULD spend a ton of time figuring out how to write everything off (And I really could), I just feel thats unpatriotic, and well...kinda...bad.

Well, if you're daft enough to believe giving to charity actually helps I could buy the love of kicking up to Big Brother.

There's your answer OP. Scary, I know.

Don't the rich pay like 70% of all income tax?

What we are experiencing in this country is not a tax problem, it's a jobs problem. There aren't enough good paying jobs anymore because of these lifelong politicians playing economist while voting for whatever whoever lines their pockets the most tells them to. I don't want a government handout or payoff. I don't want a minimum wage raise. I want opportunity and there is hardly any left because the politicians ran it all off. Now they want to sell out the last American citizen's opportunity to this open boarders crap with the goal of gaining the votes of anchor babies, the fastest and largest growing demographic up for grabs. Funny how both democrats and republicans were against illegal immigration during the 90s back. Now they push forward because all they see are VOTES. I'm going to call it like I see it, and the whole political system is a sham. Otherwise we wouldn't be 20 trillion in debt while wall street sees record profits all the while college grads are forced to move back in with mommy and daddy.

I will support none of it!! I'm done being fooled and I'm done playing PC games. I'm sure someone will
be along shortly to call me a racist or xenophobe. Truth is I'm not scared of any race, I'm scared I am witnessing the country I grew up in get flushed down the drain. What happened to the melting pot? What happened to the land of opportunity? We are witnessing a major shift in this country and that's what I'm scared of. I don't believe the 5% unemployment, and I don't believe the stock market charts. My gut tells me we are on a major decline, and our politicians are trying to assure us that everything is fine. That is except for Bernie and Trump.

When I say charity, i mostly mean Habitat for Humanity, where I actually help build the house, and then help furnish it, so im 100% sure it helps.

Also want to point out that this thread isnt about what you believe makes a difference. The OP asked if you maxed out the possibility of paying less in taxes. You seemed to not be able to address that after the first 2 respondents didnt answer as you thought they would.

I take advantage of all of the tax laws available to me. I would not respect the intelligence of anyone who didn't do the same.

Taxes are a ploy to keep political outsiders out of politics.

Of course outsiders with enough money/name recognition to run for president are going to do everything possible to pay as little tax as possible. The "political class"/media will simply spin their low tax liability as being unable to relate to the common man and unpatriotic. Therefore, the politicians and donors keep the system going.

The top 1% has 35.4 of all income, top 5 has 62% and the top 10 has 74% of all income.

You seem to be arguing that since they pay the most in income tax, that means they are paying their fair shire, but is a misconception on your part.

Paying the most isnt the same as paying an equal amount, or an equivalent of a fair share.

The top 5%, which is 62% of all income, only pays 51% of the tax burden.

As for calling it a job problem, well, that just isnt true.

1 person making 100 million in a year is going to pay more in taxes than 4,000 people making 50,000 a year.

Your numbers are off. The top 1% earns 19.04% of the income, but pays 37.8% of the federal income tax revenue.
