poverty or economical status has nothing to do in giving millions of U.S. Citizens full representation and full access to the nation that rules over them for over 1 century.

your excuse was used to deny U.S. Citizenship and basic rights to former black slaves.....some wanted to send them back to Africa and ignore their rights in this nation......some of the reasons used: they are poor, they are uneducated, they are not compatible to the American culture....the list of ignorance was long.

If we deny rights of U.S. Citizens because their state or local government are leftists progressive then you have to kick out of the union half of the states in this country starting with California and strip over 150 million U.S. citizens of their representation and rights under the federal laws they have to obey and live under.

Who said PR has to continue to be a US territory?

As far as I'm concerned, the first time they protested a naval base, we were done.

Like the current influx of wage crushing immigrants and guest workers, we just don't need them.

The people who do want them here are willing to accept dependency and lower wages in exchange for Democrat votes.

It is a fact that the only way Democrats win elections is by forcing working Americans to pay for the generational dependency that is the ear marker of a loyal Democrat.

Whoa, slow down there tiger. The Bronx is a part of NYC, NYC is part of New York State, NYS pays more into the system than it gets in return, so - how exactly is The Bronx a "financial black hole for taxpayers"? lol

The left wing movement has been prominent among Puerto Ricans on the mainland.

Now if Puerto Rico isn't a guaranteed Democrat stronghold then MAYBE its not that bad but their economic issues are still very concerning and us having to bail them out of that mess. Also we're not sure that they're not going to support Obamacare at a time when we must as a nation get Obamacare dismantled and end the push for socialist medicine. On the good side I guess Puerto Ricans are still more socially conservative than New York and California and are still mostly pro-life and don't believe men should be allowed in women's bathrooms.

If Puerto Rico becomes a state, another concern is that it will give Washington DC more momentum toward statehood and I definitely oppose the District of Columbia becoming a state.
Uh; ALL Puerto Ricans ARE US citizens so their kind have the same rights as any other American.

If I had to choose though I would rather have Puerto Rico become a state than Washington DC.

Its a basket case economically. Let it fix that itself before any consideration is given to statehood.
A Territory's economy never stopped any of them from becoming a state before. Why should that requirement begin now?

- The American flag looks perfect the way it is now

- Puerto Rico is a very left-wing place politically. Allowing them to be a state means that the Democrats will have a permanent advantage in the Electoral College and in Congress as the new Senate and House seats allotted to them will be filled by Democrats. Puerto Rican voters are also susceptible to the Democrats' racial politics and stand in racial solidarity with illegal Mexicans and Central Americans in favor of illegal immigration and things like the Dream Act and illegal alien amnesty.

- This will be adding another non-English speaking area to the U.S. and will undermine efforts to make English the official language of America

I truly believe this is a ploy by liberals and Democrats to gain and hold power. THey've tried to push for Washington DC to be a state for a long time and have failed and now they want to try with Puerto Rico. Because the left moving Democrat Party can no longer appeal to the average American, they have to resort to these games.

Though I'm open to allowing Puerto Rico to be a state in exchange for New Jersey or California leaving and taking their electoral votes and Congresional representation away.
Is there something wrong with this 49-star flag?

49 Star US Flags

A 51-star flag would look like it, except the number on the horizontal rows would be reversed. The top, 3rd, 5th, and 7th rows would be the ones with the extra star.

By the way- those 49-star flags still exist, and can be flown on any holiday, just like the 50-star flag can. Any old flag is still legal, no matter how many stars are on it.

Is there really any serious movement to make DC a state? I support PR statehood and I would never support DC statehood.

This is not in the best interest of the United States. I don't think PR should be allowed to become a state without all of our consent. We should be allowed to vote on whether or not we want PR.

If PR becomes a state, what's to stop all the other U.S territories?

We have to pressure congress to stop this!

did the federal government got the consent of all American voters to invade and occupy Puerto Rico in 1898 and make it by force a U.S. Territory and force on them all federal laws and be under U.S. jurisdiction and force on them U.S. Citizenship so they can be forced to be drafted and fight and die in all American wars since WW I?

your federal government broke this over a century ago before you were born and you have NO clue what your own government does and now they own it......they must give representation and a voice to 3.5 million U.S. Citizens that the U.S. government has own for over a century......that is the right thing to do.

if you don't think its in the best interest of the U.S., well the people in charge of the federal government for the past century think otherwise. Maybe they should think next time before invading another country, occupying them for over 1 century, force U.S. laws on them and force U.S. Citizenship on them by force so they can be drafted to fight and die in all U.S. WARS since W 1......now the U.S. owns Puerto Rico and they have to do the right thing and give them finally representation and a voice because Puerto Rico is and has been under U.S. Federal Jurisdiction since 1898.

The U.S. did it to all the territories it took from Mexico by military force what is known today as California, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Arizona. It made all of the residents that stayed that were under the jurisdiction of Mexico U.S. Citizens and it made all those territories into states with time so every citizen be represented and have a voice in the federal government.

it can do the same for Puerto Rico....that is the least they can do for having a U.S. territory for over 1 century under U.S. jurisdiction and NO representation in congress for the federal laws they have to obey and live under for more than 100 years,......if you don't think that is the least the federal government can do after the facts than I know why are we disliked around the world with American ignorance like yours.
