What's hilarious is that Trump supporters like yourself always manage to out yourselves as really disgusting people when you're attempting to be critical of liberals.

Non liberal here and I am not melting down. He was disrespectful and made it about himself yet again. Even Republicans thought it was inappropriate.

Not so hilarious if you are in a leadership position with Boy Scouts, an organization that is already struggling with declining enrollment. In the past five years they've had to significantly increase the amount they request families to 'donate' (above and beyond fees) and fundraise for each boy to help cover the expense of sexual abuse scandals. They've had to sell off quite a few of their camp properties around the country to cut expenses and fund programs. They've lost both liberal and conservative scouting families because of the way they bungled the issue of gay scouts and leaders. And now they have even more families wondering if scouting, an organization that is all about instilling good values and raising young men, is teaching boys what it purports to.

My family has been involved in scouting for at least 30 years. We've had scouts, leaders and scout masters. I seriously considered pulling my children over the way the organization has excluded gays and atheists/agnostics. I will freely admit that it took some ethical and moral gymnastics to justify staying, and that my decision was driven more by nostalgia than reason. I know there are a lot of families that are rethinking their involvement in the organization today, and BSA has to realize that at some point they will have alienated so many members that they simply can't go on.

Lets take a look at Obama and Trump and chat about family values, shall we?

Barack and Michelle have been married for 25 years and seem to be a team of equals. Their daughters are well mannered, intelligent young women. Hundreds, if not thousands, of photos show the couple being sweet and kind to each other. Michelle adjusting Barack's tie. Barack hugging Michelle. Michelle's mother moved into the White House to help with the girls and to make sure the girls had a stable home life in spite of their unique circumstances. The Obamas chose to stay in Washington DC so their daughter could finish school with her friends and not be uprooted again.

Trump. Well, Trump has been married three times and has fathered children with each wife. Trump is a notorious philanderer. By all accounts, he has a very hands off relationship with his minor children; each child being raised mostly by his or her mother. Trump talks about grabbing women. Trump talks about his oldest daughter as if she is a potential mate for him. Trump and Melania seem very cold towards each other, rarely holding hands, smiling at each other or really engaging in any other sincere form of affection one would expect. Have we ever seen Trump hug or even really talk to Barron?

The two families could not be more different yet some Republicans hold the Trumps up as a paragon of family values. But fail to explain why Trump is more of a family man than Obama.

Why is that?
I've said it once, and I'll say it again: they don't care, so long as a white conservative male is president.

There is no other explanation.

So why did they invite Trump? Surely they knew he would attack Obama, carry on about “fake news†and bad mouth Clinton.

The rambling on about the builder going bankrupt who “ was now much older. And I saw him at a cocktail party, and it was very sad because the hottest people in New York were at this party, ...†might have been unexpected, but the rest is Trump's M.O.

Boy Scouts of America distances itself from partisan politics after Trump speech - POLITICO
It has been a traditional courtesy to invite the sitting president to speak at the jamboree. Not fair to expect the BSA to "know" what Trump was going to say, I'm certain they expected his message to be appropriate to the occasion and the setting, just as any other invited guest. Unfortunately, Trump has no throttle, whether he's talking to one of his mob buddies or a 12 year old kid. For them to respond any further only validates the controversy and denigrates the ideals of the scout organization. They are handling it with sensitivity and respect. Scouts is about God, country, and community, not politics, it was Trump who made a fool of himself.

Someone mentioned the Boy Scout code.

Trump has exactly none of these characteristics as far as I can see. What does it say about his supporters at this point? Would you use these words to describe them?

Trustworthy,
Loyal,
Helpful,
Friendly,
Courteous,
Kind,
Obedient,
Cheerful,
Thrifty,
Brave,
Clean,
Reverent

I just learned that some friends from Scouting are attending Jamboree this year, and I'm looking forward to hearing their perspective on the speech and what happened after Trump left the stage.

Oh, I'm pretty certain I know exactly how the adult involved reacted to the speech (Not well!), but I'm looking forward to hearing about how the rest of the attendees reacted after the smoke cleared.
