In the hours after President Donald Trump said on an Oct. 17 radio broadcast that he had contacted "virtually everybody" who had lost a family member in military service this year, the White House was hustling to learn from the Pentagon the identities and contact information for those families, according to an internal Defense Department email.
The email exchange, which has not been previously reported, shows that senior White House aides were aware on the day the President made the statement that it was not accurate – but that they should try to make it accurate as soon as possible, given the gathering controversy.
Trump: "I have called, I believe, everybody – but certainly I’ll use the word virtually everybody," Trump said.
Since then, The Associated Press contacted 20 families and found that half had not heard from Trump.
The Pentagon email indicates that 21 military personnel had been killed in action during Trump’s tenure, and an additional 44 had been killed by means other than enemy fire, such as ship collisions that took 17 sailors’ lives in the Pacific this summer.
i'm skeptical. wilson is a friend of the family. it seems odd to refer to someone that you have a relationship with as "this so called politician". it sounds more like a phrase used for someone you've never met.
Kelly was stunned that Wilson listened in on such a private sensitive call? It seems that Wilson being with the family at the time of the call was not planned and her hearing it was happenstance as the recipient put it on speaker phone. If Kelly was truly concerned about people listening in on such calls, why was he doing so at his end in the WH? It would seem his participation was actually planned.
