Yes, I'm sure Trump thinks it is "the saddest thing" that he can't jail anyone who criticizes him and drop charges against all his criminal cronies. Because that's exactly what he would do.
It was always clear to me from Day One that this guy's megalomaniac, dictatorial approach to life will mean attempts to grossly overstep the powers of the Executive branch. And his populist American First spiel is really just a smokescreen to get people to go along with Trump First. I called it a long time ago that this guy is dangerous for our democracy. He does not respect the institutions and checks and balances that are vital to preserve our individual freedoms.
And you Trumpers thought Obama was overstepping his authority... at least he wasn't publicly salivating at trying to jail political opponents and threatening to change libel laws to shut up the press criticisms.
What Trump thinks is the saddest thing is actually the greatest thing for America. If this place survives as a viable representative democracy, it will be because of the checks and balances that withstood this idiot's attempt to behave like a King (and an immature one at that).
Quote:
"The saddest thing is that because I'm the president of the United States, I am not supposed to be involved with the Justice Department. I am not supposed to be involved with the FBI," Trump said on "The Larry O'Connor Show" less than a week after special counsel Robert Mueller handed down indictments to former members of his campaign including its former chairman, Paul Manafort.
As much as Trump plots to expand his powers, he's actually causing the opposite to happen. Every president, since FDR came into the White House, has expanded the power and scope of the office. Even Nixon did that. But Trump is diminishing the respect that people all over the world have for it and our country, as a whole. And he isn't finished yet. Who knows what atrocity of his, still lies ahead? As he lusts for complete control of our justice system, he is essentially letting us know that if he achieved that, freedom in our country would be over. He's like that proverbial camel, trying to get its nose under the edge of a tent. Once its nose is underneath, soon the whole camel will be inside.

Anything you excuse will only get worse. We excused Bush and Obama when they argued that they could ignore a citizens due process rights. We allowed them to throw people in prison without access to council. We allowed them to kill American citizens without as much as a hearing.
We allowed them to use the IRS to go after those whose politics they disagree with.
You can't be surprised when the next guy is as bad or worse.

Suppose you tell us of just one case, where Obama did anything like you are describing. Maybe you're thinking of Osama Bin Laden, not getting a proper hearing, before he was taken down?

So, does that mean if we excuse it now, the next guy will be worse than Trump?

It's very likely.
