The costs of domestic auto supply companies will go up with tariffs. That means they will be less able to compete with companies importing auto supplies into the U.S. as the latter companies are not subject to the tariffs.

Denso is a foreign company with manufacturing plans throughout North America. Start many years ago. They will not be affected by the tariffs.

This is an example of Foreign investment in America. Which is the offset to trade deficits. America has almost 3 times the foreign investment than the next closest country. And this did not happened overnight.

Or, like some of the other recent reports, was already in motion long before the president said anything about tariffs or tax cuts or what-have-you.

And to put a point on how rediculous this claim is: It assumes that companies are investing millions (if not billions) to build new plants and reopen old ones, based on a statement from the President who is known to flip-flop based on the highest bidder. Just from a due-diligence point of view, they are not going to build plants based on something he says he'll do, especially something that is illegal in WTO rulings, and highly subject to being overruled or overturned, or influenced due to reciprocation.

In a word, NO BUSINESS PERSON in their right mind is making decisions based on this unfulfilled statement. PERHAPS they are using the opportunity to make press releases about plans already in the works, but the thought that they are investing billions based on a single statement is well beyond laughable.
This, exactly!

Why doesn't Trump simply offer a tax code that incentivizes the steel and aluminum industries to upgrade their production technology. That way we can become more competitive with Europe and Canada and some others. A Moon Shot / Marshall Plan project to retrain the metal workers and coal miners for today technology will also work wonders, as well -- or at least keep matters from getting worse.

That would definitely be better than tariffs and trade wars.

But Republicans are supposed to be for small government and keeping their noses out of things like that, right?

These are due to Trump's tariffs.

They work.

Still Winning

wow, 300 jobs in Tennessee

all we had to do was force everyone in the united states to pay more for steel and aluminum.

TOTALLY worth it, what a trade-off.

Right!

Just another inconvenient truth that will ignored by the OP.

Nope. They specifically cited the tariff as reason for the expansion. Why do you ignore that?
