No kidding. He may not have wanted to associate with the kids in study hall either. I would have asked my parents if I could just stay home, that's how non-political I was.

You can't keep missing school though. It's compulsory.

The State will fine and eventually cage the legal guardian.

The school cast the protest as a memorial to the students who were killed. Not an anti-gun rally.

Our suspended student decided in his own mind that attending the protest would be a support of the anti-gun position but that attending the study hall would oppose the what might turn out to be a memorial service. He was unwilling to take either position.

I think the kid is a thoughtful hero. But I also do not think the school did anything wrong. Sometimes there simply is not a good outcome available

I said they do.

Trump had no right to make that speech there. Just like these schools had no right organizing these gun protests.

That's being punished for not choosing one of the options offered.

Simple -- but yet seemingly complicated for some.

There are students who were told not to walk and they did and they are getting punished.

Why wouldn't they punish other students who chose to defy authority and do what they WANTED and not what was offered up as a choice?

You disagree with it. That does not make it a violation, other than a violation of your beliefs.

A high school student in Hilliard, Ohio, didn’t want to pick sides in the contentious gun debate surrounding Wednesday’s “National Walkout,” so he stayed in class instead of joining the largely anti-gun protest or an alternative “study hall.”

Like the students who walked out in some school districts and were forbidden and therefore punished, this student CHOSE to not follow the direction of the school to go to the study hall.

He decided to make a political statement by not obeying.

It was his statement, his political activism.

If he had either

a) stayed hom
b) walked out
c) gone to study hall

Nothing would have happened.

I wasn't saying that they happen "during classes" though they do. To stay on topic, I am saying they happen during school sponsored assemblies.
