The kid should have just said that the classroom is his "Safe space"
No kidding. He may not have wanted to associate with the kids in study hall either. I would have asked my parents if I could just stay home, that's how non-political I was.

You can't keep missing school though. It's compulsory.
The State will fine and eventually cage the legal guardian.
The school cast the protest as a memorial to the students who were killed. Not an anti-gun rally.
Our suspended student decided in his own mind that attending the protest would be a support of the anti-gun position but that attending the study hall would oppose the what might turn out to be a memorial service. He was unwilling to take either position.
I think the kid is a thoughtful hero. But I also do not think the school did anything wrong. Sometimes there simply is not a good outcome available

^^^^^Thanks. Such a double standard. I pay a LOT of money in real estate, and property taxes which go directly to the School District. They will be hearing from me.
A high school student in Hilliard, Ohio, didn’t want to pick sides in the contentious gun debate surrounding Wednesday’s “National Walkout,” so he stayed in class instead of joining the largely anti-gun protest or an alternative “study hall.”
Like the students who walked out in some school districts and were forbidden and therefore punished, this student CHOSE to not follow the direction of the school to go to the study hall.
He decided to make a political statement by not obeying.
What sort of "entertainment breaks" do you think happen during classes in schools?
I wasn't saying that they happen "during classes" though they do. To stay on topic, I am saying they happen during school sponsored assemblies.
