Then why is the department's Chief speaking out on the matter? Why is the officer under investigation? What purpose does it serve to set yourself up to look bad?
Perhaps the poster could elaborate on why an elaborate conspiracy would be undertaken only to make oneself look bad.
I can't think of one myself.

i have been in the clerks shoes, and when someone pulls a gun and points it at you, your mind races a mile a minute, with all kinds of thoughts going through your head. and even though the whole situation lasted a few seconds, it probably seemed like ten minutes to the clerk. the clerk was probably wondering if he said something, the guy with the gun might turn on him and use deadly force.
and it is a legitimate concern, since anyone willing to pull a gun over a pack of mentos, is not right in the head and just might do anything.
So my guess was right. People were kind of hard on the poor clerk.
Wow! I'm not normally one to weigh in on race issues but that's GOT to be one of the most racist things I've ever heard. And I'm a white guy!
I hope you're proud of yourself, Pilgrims. It's people like you who give Trump supporters (not that they need a lot of help in that regard) a bad name.
She was only stating the obvious This is why we can’t have an honest discussion about race. Truth is racist
The cop didn't see this guy pay for the item, only saw him reach over the counter to grab the mints instead of the sales clerk handing it over. The clerk should have spoken up sooner. THE COP APOLOGIZED.
Much ado about nothing. Good thing the customer wasn't black or the taxpayers would be on the hook for a fat settlement.
Good God, police officers are not supposed to draw guns on people who steal breath mints
Mentos should re-create this into one of their chitty commercials. At the end the customer and the cop walk out the front door smiling, holding arms like life long best of friends and a roll of Mentos up to the camera while the jingle plays.
At least watching that Mentos commercial I won't have the urge to kick the tv in while it's playing.
