Didn't that sound kind of staged ?
The way they were talking sounded like they put that together just to make a youtube video.

Then why is the department's Chief speaking out on the matter? Why is the officer under investigation? What purpose does it serve to set yourself up to look bad?

It is not. Deadly force is the top of the escalation ladder, after all other means have failed or cannot be deployed. This guy jumped right away to the top of the ladder.

Much ado about nothing. Good thing the customer wasn't black or the taxpayers would be on the hook for a fat settlement.
If he was black he probably would be dead and you would be telling everyone that it was his own fault because the mentos looked like a gun and should not have been buying mentos anyway

Trying to put myself in the clerks shoes.

He did not know for sure if this guy was a real cop or some whack job who when disrupted would of told the clerk to not interfere and perhaps shoot his way.

i have been in the clerks shoes, and when someone pulls a gun and points it at you, your mind races a mile a minute, with all kinds of thoughts going through your head. and even though the whole situation lasted a few seconds, it probably seemed like ten minutes to the clerk. the clerk was probably wondering if he said something, the guy with the gun might turn on him and use deadly force.

and it is a legitimate concern, since anyone willing to pull a gun over a pack of mentos, is not right in the head and just might do anything.

You bootlickers never cease to amaze me. The cop pulled out a firearm and pointed it at someone for a $1.50 pack of Mentos. The customer was not a danger to anyone and even if he had been shoplifting, why pull a firearm?

The clerk probably had no idea what was even going on until about halfway into the incident.

The officer should be fired for his idiotic actions. I'm betting we'll be seeing him in the news soon enough for shooting someone for failing to wear a seatbelt.
