Much ado about nothing. Good thing the customer wasn't black or the taxpayers would be on the hook for a fat settlement.
I guess this is just typical round these parts.

I'm sure the cop will have his supporters on here though, even though the video/audio absolutely corroborates the innocence of the customer.

Pulling a gun out over Mentos? Someone's life is only worth a dollar...or however much Mentos cost. If he had stolen them, which he didn't, it's a petty crime, not worthy of a gun being pointed at him.

We don't need people like that on the force.

I hope that cop either loses his job or is reprimanded severely. I normally support the police, WHEN THEY ARE RIGHT, this guy was way over the line.

I hope that poor guy gets enough money out of this to buy a truckload of Mentos.
Yup......I was most upset at the clerk. He could have easily diffused the whole situation by just telling the undercover officer that he paid for it. That was straight up weird and really strange the way the clerk acted. Congratulations to the guy for keeping his cool and not giving the wacko undercover an excuse to do anything.

i gotta agree with don here, i too normally support the cops, but in this case, no. this cop needs to be severely reprimanded, sent back to the academy and given a refresher course in dealing with the public, and possible petty crimes, at the very least.

personally i think the cop should be fired over the incident as he has proven that he is an irresponsible officer, and will probably be involved in a high profile shooting incident in the future.

i can see the clerk though, probably seeing someone pull a gun for the first time in his life, and not knowing what was going on and he just stood there in shock, so i give the clerk a pass.

There are many thousands of LEOs in the USA.

Not all of them are proficient at their duties.

Same could be said of lawyers, physicians, accountants, politicians, plumbers and (as posted here frequently) teachers.

Seems to me the clerk could have defused this, but chose instead to stand there like a mute fool.

I think the clerk was in shock, if the LEO had shot at the customer he was in the line of fire too. I would give the clerk a pass.

The Officer, on the other hand, should be fired.

how did the clerk knew he was off duty cop. maybe off duty cops need to be 100% off duty, not even carry a gun out of uniform

Watch at 36 seconds into that video, the cop is already reaching behind his back to get his gun out, and he had just walked in. For someone in LE, he should have been more in control of himself, and not ready to shoot someone.

This could have turned out really bad, good thing the victim was cool and did everything right. I bet that cop will be holding a desk job over this one.

Why would the clerk speak up and risk getting shot?

That was all on the cop.

and how the hell do we know he is a cop? Just because he said he was?

I guess the fact that these clerks are generally not rocket scientist enters into the equation too. But I think most normal people would have said "Officer, he DID pay for them" ! way before he was asked. Even then, he was very weak in his response.
