And as far as poverty goes, you can’t forget the crippling US sanctions that have left it out of the global supply chain.

The title of your thread is Cuba has one of the best political systems in the world. Most look at the leadership of the country to get some sense to how the political system operates. The leadership is one of the most oppressive in the world.

They are about the same population as Haiti but double the foreign trade. They trade with lots of countries just not us. Obviously they would be doing better with open trade with America.

I am not big on America doing regime change or nation building and of course against us starting wars. But Cuba made the decision to align with our bitter enemy the Soviet Union. Of course America is going try to undermine Cuba. Their proximity is too close to us. So Cuba decided to do that and their people have suffered for decades because of it.

Cuba probably has the best most interesting political structure beneath the surface appearance of the central government.

Private control is about democracy. I own my house and the land it sits on. that is MY PRIVATE control of it. That is democracy. The more power you give to the government over your life, the less freedom you have.
Private property has nothing to do with democracy, in fact it has the opposite affect, it detracts from democracy. Democracy is people having a say in societal issues, when the means of production are privatized, the people lose control over their function and personal affect and now individual authoritarian capitalists control the affect on millions of other people.

Once again, capitalism is the enemy of democracy.

Anyways Democracy in Cuba doesn’t revolve around the central government, but around economic institutions and local municipalities.

Democracy in Cuba doesn't revolve around anything because it doesn't exist!!

Really? Do you own your property, or do you rent it from the government via property, and real estate taxes? See what happens if you don't pay them. I'm not trying to be flippant, and I am a capitalist, but also a realist. Our Republic has some democratic tendencies, but we aren't a true democracy, and that's a good thing.

Bottom line is our form of government is far superior to Cuba's, Venezuela, and other quasi communist countries which are always totalitarian, oppressive regimes.

Well let’s see, Vietnam voluntarily chose their political system by kicking our butts. Is communism a good political system?

North Korea chose their political system by letting China fight their civil war. Is dictatorship a good political system?

Humans can be very stupid when it comes to voluntary choosing their own system. Case in point the OP who believes Cuba has a great political system.

People from Spanish, Slavic, and African countries run toward the West because their political system are pure kleptocracy trash.
