Anyways Democracy in Cuba doesn’t revolve around the central government, but around economic institutions and local municipalities.

LOL, Elections? what elections.

From the link... "Since Cuba became a one-party republic and the Communist party became the official political party.

Winterfall, why are you still here? Move to Cuba if you like this type of gov't. Just a survival hint.. we thought it was bad here when people dared to disagree with Obama, he at least we were jailed. But in Cuba don't speak out against the leadership if you like seeing the light of day.

By the way, an elderly friend escaped Cuba. He was hoping that once Castro died that things would change and he could go to see family in his home country. As we know, nothing much changed.

That is what crippling sanctions by a foriegn thug does to a country.

Grassroots municipal democracy is a real thing there.

According to this:

A3. Are the electoral laws and framework fair, and are they implemented impartially by the relevant election management bodies?

The only Cuban elections that offer a choice of more than one candidate per office are those for municipal assemblies, and no campaigning is allowed. Ahead of the municipal voting held in November 2017, the government worked to discredit or disqualify potential opposition candidates and to intimidate voters. Some candidates were convicted on trumped-up charges in summary trials, or detained to prevent them from attending nomination meetings. In other cases, local residents were never advised of the date and time of the nomination meetings, allowing government supporters to block independent candidacies. A group of 175 activists associated with the opposition coalition Otro18 sought to run in the elections, but none were ultimately able to secure a place on the ballot. Activists also faced detentions and intimidation while attempting to monitor polling places and vote counting.

If no campaigning is allowed and only those who tote the party line can run for office how is this a good system?

Seriously. I know some people have said this in a mean way but seems to me instead of being here and talking about how you want this country to be which most likely will never happen. Why not live in Cuba? If there was a libertarian country that existed in the world even if it could use some changes to make it how I would like it I would be there in a flash. Life is short. Look at the videos you posted from Spain from the people who took part in the Catalonia revolution. They are all long gone and Catalonia never got back to how it was for a short time.

Life is very short. Much too quickly you are old and you have lots of time to ponder what could have been without the energy or ability to do much of anything. You do have a sincere passion for what you believe in. With that anything is possible.

No campaigning is the model our founding fathers wanted as it allowed for outside influence and turned democracy into a popularity contest where the persons with the furthest reach win.

Only a troll could come up with something this INSANE.

Yep, Cuba is sooo great they're one of the only countries IN THE WORLD that jailed/killed their own citizens for attempting to LEAVE. They're one a the few that STILL jail and reportedly torture their OWN people for dissent...

Maybe you should move there?

I may be a communist, but not as you understand it.

I’m not a Bolshevik, Maoist, or even a Marxist (though I respect the man and a lot of his communist teachings are the basis of modern day anarchist theory).
