Since the 60’s, many neighborhoods in Brooklyn and Queens have embraced security patrols. Some are for profit enterprises paid for by neighbors and some are all volunteers of common religion and/ or ethnicity.

Shomrim is a large international umbrella organization of volunteer organizations in nearly every ultra orthodox community in the US and the UK. Volunteers patrol on foot and in marked cars. Some of the cars were acquired with funding from grants approved by NYC Counsel.

Some of these organizations also attempt to enforce Jewish law within their communities and discourage outsiders.

Some Shomrim organizations encourage the community to call them before or instead of NYPD.

Some Rabbis have been known to make clear in Yiddish media that there will be serious consequences to those who inform on a fellow Jew to secular authorities. There have been a few instances over the years where a Shomrim organization withheld information from NYPD.

Shmira is another Ultra- Orthodox Patrol operating in Brooklyn.

Then there’s the Asian Safety Patrols operate in Brooklyn.

Volunteers in these organizations wear uniforms and drive marked cars.

The One America News (OAN) is a far right company known to spread conspiracy theories and feed the fears of their audience. Too bad they did not bother to look at the broad phenomena of community watch groups in NYC
and instead chose to sustain the perception there is a Muslim under every bed just waiting to behead you in your sleep.

Don’t know about you, but it’s getting crowded under my bed with all the refugees, illegal immigrants and Muslims.

What's next? MCP riot squad? Things happen over time and this is just the START. As a Gay man, I feel safer in Alabama than places where these "patrols" are. The Orlando shooter befriended many in the club he shot up and deceived his way in to what he would call the infidels. Which book advocates for this behavior? hmmmmm

You would have been right at home as an apologist for the Nazi street patrols in early '30s Germany.
You mean like the checkered history of Joe Arpaio’s volunteer posee?

No, not even for their own. This is a free country for all.
Presumably, “ they” can attempt to enforce aspects of Islamic Law on those Muslims who allow them to do so.

It’s no different than some of the ultra Orthodox patrols operating in some communities.Dont even think about opening your business or shopping on Saturday. Must dress modestly. Women to cover their hair, gender segregation on public streets with women on one side and males on the other......

If they have not yet removed that red/blue light-bar from their fake cop car... yes.

Some of the ultra orthodox patrols do the same. Then there’s the Asian Safety Patrols.

Some of the ultra orthodox patrols in some communities attempt to enforce Jewish law on Jews.

Sounds to me like this volunteer Muslim community watch is using a page out of the 50+ year old ultra orthodox patrols.

It's complicated. Having Muslim patrols is fine. There are Christian and Jewish examples of the same thing. The reason this worries people is that Islam is the one religion on the planet encapsulating a culture of Muslims dominating whatever nation they're in, treating non-Muslims like second class citizens with fewer rights and encoding Islam as the law of the land. Americans see how horribly mistreated non-Muslims are in Muslim majority countries and they want nothing to do with that happening here in the USA.
