Ideally, after the civil war, former slaves would have received land and funds from their former slave owners.
Now, it's far too late to even discuss reparations. What these Democrats are doing is the equivalent of Trump's "build a wall with Mexico's money" - something from them to stand out in a crowded primary. Using government funds to pass reparations to Black people will set back race relations in the USA to terrible levels.
Reparations? I'm all for them if there are any living former slaves out there we should give them an apology and a suitcase full of money for their suffering.
Where do reparations end? What about the Native Americans? What about the Irish on the East coast? What about the Asians on the West. There have been many sorts of people that were owned and indentured, forced to work as and like slaves. What about them?
What about the people today that are being smuggled across the border by cartels and gangs to be sex slaves and mules?
The talk of reparations is a thinly veiled quest for votes.
Remember that the Democratic Party is simply a machine to take money and property from people and distribute them to Democrats. When Democrats are out of ideas about how to do that, they think of additional ways. This is just an example of that.
It would be funny if Trump created an EO to pay reparations to "black Americans affected by slavery", only for people to realize there aren't any that are still alive. Boom, reparations issue settled at no actual cost to tax payers.
Can you explain why you are saying "some are more equal that others?" Where is that idea coming from exactly? Further, can you explain how reparations are an example of fascism? Can you define fascism?
Personally, I don't know where I stand with handing out reparations. I understand our history as a country and how the end of slavery after the Civil War brought another hundred+ years of Jim Crow and extreme discrimination. Even today, the playing field ain't level. However, I do understand that the Democrats do need to win and winning is the only option. We need to start repairing the damage done to our country by the Republicans and, especially, the current occupant of the White House.
