Each state has its own definition of who they consider to be a resident and it is possible to end up resident of more than one state. We were for a while, one state because we owned a house there which was that state's criteria, and the other state because we voted in that one. Basically, you have to check the law in any state you live in, own property in, work in, or vote in. It can get complicated if you split time between 2 states. Trump can say whatever he wants about his residency but NY no doubt is going to scrutinize whether he meets their definition of resident for tax purposes.

Default Trump Gives The Middle Birdie To N.Y; Trump Is Now A Resident Of Florida, Ending Long Relationship With New York

As wealthy individuals change residency to lower tax jurisdictions, and major finance companies move non-business development personnel to outside of NYS, the socialists running NYS and NYC will progressively become less and less able to balance the budget. Or maybe they think that the $15/hr jobs can fill the void left by departing millionaires and Wall Street employees. LOL

Quote:
“I hereby declare that my above-described residence and abode in the State of Florida constitutes my predominant and principal home, and I intend to continue it permanently as such,” Trump wrote in a declaration of domicile document, which was filed in Florida’s Palm Beach County.

As someone who lives in NY, good for him.

I hope to also leave this state.

You're crazy to stay here with their taxes and government.

I'm glad NY will no longer receive his tax revenue.

The left will NEVER understand people make decisions based on what is best for them financially.

As a result of the last census , NY LOST 2 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Millionaires have been flooding exiting NY for many years now.

From the article, "“I cherish New York, and the people of New York, and always will, but unfortunately, despite the fact that that I pay millions of dollars in city, state and local taxes each year"

That is MILLIONS of dollars NY loses, plus I will add this might squelch the NY lawsuit trying to get Trump's state taxes.

Several years ago a "luxury" tax was passed and the dems were all over TV claiming how much NEW tax revenue it would bring in.

The REAL result was thousands of LOST jobs and businesses in the boating and private airplane industry CLOSING

They could never imagine people would boycott buying new boats and planes and not gleefully pay an extra 10% tax.

The tax revenues DECREASED and MORE money had to be paid in unemployment insurance claims, etc.

Yes, Fla. will get to see Trump at his worst.

Once they get to know him, he will lose the general in Fla.
