NBA player Earl Monroe turned down an opportunity to play for the Indiana Pacers in 1971. According to Monroe, he found that the Black players kept guns because they feared the KKK presence in the Indianapolis area.

Indiana wasn't the only state with a large KKK presence. Oregon too. Oregon once had a law in its Constitution prohibiting Blacks from living there.

Here it is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon...exclusion_laws

The law was repealed in 1926. However, the KKK ran Oregon during the 1920s. Before Oregon became known for progressive politics and being liberal, it was a hostile environment for Blacks.
Yeah, though I'd think that many of these transplant auto plants are located where they are because they're right to work states AND that such states will throw lots of incentives (e.g. tax breaks and other financial sweetners) at them.

To address your point about Black athletes facing hostile environments in the cities they play - Boston was pretty infamous for that. The Red Sox were the last MLB team to integrate - not surprisingly - a function of the team's ownership and management as well as the city's environment, in recent years. That actually hurt the team after the advent of free agency, when a lot of (black) free agents could choose NOT to go to the Sox. Bill Russell of the Celtics was quite critical of the city's racial dynamics (and in the 1980s, it was the team having the most white players - which wasn't surprising if you know Boston). Fortunately today, it's really no different from other pro teams and leagues - for both the Red Sox and Celtics.

As for Oregon - despite Portland's hippy or progressive reputation, it's not all that friendly a place for its Black community, which is quite small. Not surprised, really.

You getting owned and rebutted decisively by desertdetroiter on that particular exchange, but you'll never admit to it. Others know better.

Racism is as old as dirt.

Here in the US, it's owned by the DNC. It's the party of slavery and Jim Crow.

Not much racism anymore. Even Hollywood actors need to pay to be the "victims" of racism.

Miss me with that willful ignorance and omission, puhleez. Getting tired and old, man.

Thanks to the Southern Strategy and party realignment - the racists today are mostly in today's Republican party - it's no longer the party of Lincoln, but that of Lee Atwater, Stephen Miller, and Steve King.

WRONG.

The party swap is a lie concocted by the DNC to help with their guilt.

Too bad you don't actually know history.

Actually, I do know history. So do most political scientists who have documented party realignment and shifts in political allegiance. The Dixiecrats like Trent Lott, Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms switched over to the Republicans in the 60s and 70s. They didn't however, change their racial attitudes.

Not buying your silly gaslighting.

Sent you a PM.

Let's see if you can honestly debate this.

To tell the truth, all the harsh criticism and incessant complaining about our history especially coming from minority members could be recognized as evidence of racism and anti-America.
