Nope, not political at all, folks.

I don't necessarily think it was politically motivated to start with but it sure is now. I think the Democrats have used to to ramp up their get rid of Trump efforts, which began before he even took the oath.

But the irony is Trump is our only chance to avoid this happening again. He is the only person who will stand up to China. Joe 'c'mon man, China's not our enemy' sure the hell won't. We need to bring our supply chains back to the US and more importantly our drug manufacturing. We are beholden to China for that and always will be if anyone but Trump wins. And this will happen again...

Completely mistaken quote from you above. The MEDIA has not caused any of the above. Schools and businesses closed down, but not by the media. President Trump just urged people not to congregate in groups of 10 or more. Was he controlled by the media? China locked down their society to defeat the virus. The don't even have a free media there. Why is everything always the media's fault with you people?

Whatever the mortality rate, unless its in the 10-15% percent range, that is not a justification to shut down the country and the world in my opinion.
What?

So unless 10 million or more die, we should just soldier on, let the chips fall where they may?

Is this sarcasm?

I don't think it has played a big part yet.

I also think we have way overreacted but others may have a lot more knowledge and information than me.

We have 74 recoveries, and 93 deaths. Granted, that is in large part because of the age group that got hit first here, but you can't say we have one of the lowest death rates.

Best case scenario at the moment, if EVERY single one of our cases (right now) recovered, and no more cases happened, our fatality rate would be 2%.

If you look at the case reporting curves for China (if you believe them) and South Korea, the outbreak seems to subside 4-6 weeks after it's initial surge.

Now not every country will be the same due to all of the variables involved and some countries (Italy) are frankly notoriously disorganized so it's hard to say exactly but it is a rough bell-weather.

So, assuming the US follows a similar pattern, we should see our cases flatten out in early to mid-April.

Beyond the mortality rate you are ignoring those hospitalized with severe cases, we aren't as old as Italy but we definitely have a diabetes problem that will enhance the problem.

All the experts are predicting that the health care system will be overwhelmed, are they alarmists.

As of March 15, S. Korea had tested 300,000 people. 8100 were positive. 75 died. The virus seemed to peak around the beginning of March and the rate has been falling ever since. They do not lock down their society. They do quarantine those who test positive.

Trump and his loyalists ALWAYS blame the media, or someone else.

No, the media didn't ban travel, or close beaches etc. Trump banned travel, and he is talking about $800 billion bailout. He is USING the media to spread panic with his daily announcements. Local governments closed beaches etc, corporate owners of sports teams suspended games, etc
