Never let facts get in the way of a good tantrum!

In a society of intelligent people, there would be no need to close certain businesses in times like these, they would simply be closing for lack of customers. But, this is Murica, land of freedumb and home of the not so bright. Government intervened in a society that failed to restrain itself, look at the recent spring break fiasco in Florida, that kind of mindless partying is just the kind of thing that allows the spread of infection to reach critical mass. And the youth were laughing in disbelief. This is the mindset we all face when attempting to find ways to ameliorate the pain of shutting down business, fools, the bane of any society..
In other words ... We're doomed. All because people are proud of themselves for being stupid. Ugh.

People with no real evidence often resort to calling names and outlandish theories. Their opinions and ideas are worthless.

Another false equivalence. Heart disease is not contagious.

That's bad news, then, if so many people can transmit the disease without knowing they're sick.

How disingenuous of you. And neither ABC nor AP are newspapers.

You mean like corporate welfare to large banks, auto makers, and other giant corporations?

Do you ever wonder why that is? Could it be ... [most] people are staying home?

It is a well known fact that women are more risk averse. Maybe too risk averse?

Well we'll see with Jacksonville's employment numbers -- if there is a spike you might be right about people walking on the beach stimulating the economy -- if not -- you are proven wrong.

It will take a month to check and you can be dam sure I will remember.......olol

(and here's the irony in your argument -- the only reason all those people can walk on a beach is because they don't have a job)

I don't care about the people on the beach -- good for them.

the symbolism of the beaches being opened as some big policy for opening the economy is a sham.

You do realize that this statement supports the whole social distancing policy.

Of course that means there are that many more people who already had it and thus can't transmit the disease and also that many more people that can provide plasma to treat people who get sick.

Plus again, we started this lock down with the goal only to "flatten the curve" -- if most people have or had it already, the curve will not go up substantially.

No one was staying home to "prevent people from getting sick". But rather a run on the hospitals which is unlikely if many people have had it already.

Only in your head. The fact that evidence is coming out that most people had it already tells me social distancing is just keeping people home who have no risk of getting it.

And I think the federal guidelines for phasing in a return to 'normal life' are good.

2 weeks of decline, start to open up. I do have some issues with something like a gym being in the first phase -- seems counter intuitive.

First -- local businesses, manufacturing -- the engines of the community -- let's get them back up in running.

I would think tourism should and is a tough sell -- so maybe not jump on that to quick, especially given that other areas maybe hotspots

BLAH BLAH BLAH.

But just to jump to phase one ignoring the measurable data conditions is careless and may lead to more problems.

There are real and practical ways to reboot the economy that aren't as sexy and appealing to the masses like letting folks on a beach ---- but our government seems lazy and bored by those ideas.

But by cutting back how we interact -- we slowed the spread significantlly.

You can't deny that.

Is that your professional opinion Dr. Stark?

Only about 10 per cent of Italians have developed coronavirus antibodies, meaning that herd immunity is far from being reached and the concept of “immunity passports” is unrealisable, a senior Italian official said.
“To get herd immunity, about 80 per cent of the population need to have been in contact with the virus, so that target is far off,” Silvio Brusaferro, the head of Italy’s national health institute, said.
