“When did you stop beating your wife?” is a nasty loaded question when asked of the average Joe because it bakes in the unfounded assumption that poor Joe is beating his wife. Unlike the above, the question: “Why are you making this a global competition?” does not bake in an unfounded assumption. It is utterly and completely obvious that Trump is making this a global competition. He is constantly crowing about how the US is doing better (by some carefully chosen metric) than every other country. It’s like asking a notorious, proven wife-beater, when he stopped beating his wife. Totally legit.
What’s baked into the question and the answer is the left wing media narrative that Trump is failing to do his job or doing a terrible job, while he is in fact working very hard and is trying to present good measurable accomplishments. The media started the “competition” when they started comparing his numbers to other countries when they think it shows a failing on Trump’s part.
They say it’s Trump turning it into a competition but they’re the one reporting that Trump isn’t making available the level of testing X country. We hear the same argument here.
Isn't this the pot calling the kettle? Perfect example of why the President can't hold a civil meeting. They are a bunch of hate filled people with torches and pitchforks looking to do harm to our President and Country.
It makes in the assumption that Trump is making it a global competition.
He is making it into global competition. He is constantly trying to compare US to other countries, and even lie about the results in other nations vs US.
He can't help it. Everything has to be about how well he has handled it, true or not. If anything goes wrong, it is always someone else's fault.

It's still a "gotcha" question. It does nothing to increase info to the public, or ask a question about actions being taken to reduce the effects of the virus.
2 months ago, constant "Why haven't you been tested yet?"
Until ~ 10 days ago, "When were you last tested? How can you be sure you don't have COVID?"
Beginning yesterday "Why are White House staff getting tested daily, versus you want workers to go back out there without ANY test?"
The anger that he must feel virtually every waking moment would mean lethal blood pressure for me and, I'd venture, for most proud patriotic Americans in his age group facing what he does daily. He's a walkingmiracle.
I don't know why Trump gives them a press meeting day after day when all they do is to try and get him with a GOTCHA!
Trump is the perpetual optimist that thinks the media is going to treat him with a bit of respect tomorrow but they are so consumed with hatred for the man that they can't help themselves.
The Lefty media thinks that they are scoring points against Trump for their party but what they are actually doing is turning Trump into a victim, the underdog and people like to help people that have been bullied...
Trump should stop the press conferences and see how the media responds.
I completely agree. Although the press knows the more they get him talking , the more he presents a gotcha moment. They are taking advantage of his lack of public speaking skills. I really wish , he'd just take some pointers from his son, whom is a complete opposite during public speaking.
You are correct. She immediately tried to twist it into a racial attack against her, even though his answer had absolutely no racial implication at all.
Because it was. Trump said go ask China to an Asian-American reporter. What the Hell do you expect her to do in all honesty? That is like your boss making a racist joke about your race or a female co-worker making "Typical male" comments. I had that from one co-worker and felt entirely uncomfortable around her for the next few weeks (she left for other reasons.)
"Never allow the public to cool off; never admit a fault or wrong; never concede that there may be some good in your enemy; never leave room for alternatives; never accept blame; concentrate on one enemy at a time and blame him for everything that goes wrong; people will believe a big lie sooner ..."
“The most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly - it must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over.”
“Propaganda works best when those who are being manipulated are confident they are acting on their own free will.”
"...the rank and file are usually much more primitive than we imagine. Propaganda must therefore always be essentially simple and repetitious."
"If you tell a lie long enough, it becomes the truth."
"In the newspapers, there is insulting and stirring up hatred. Those irresponsible daubers!"
"Intellectual activity is a danger to the building of character."
"If you tell a lie, tell a big one."
How is this not Trump's set of mantras?
