Don't think anyone should worry about this raising taxes very much!
I've been to Asheville many times too.

And it is true today Blacks only make up 12% of the population in Asheville -- but there were slaves and the Asheville community has been exploring the reparation issue for years. Lots to google if you are interested.

Just as surprised as anybody that Asheville focussed on this issue.

Asheville is undoubtedly the most liberal city in the state, FYI.

From the linked article:

The reparations won’t come in the form of direct payments to black residents — instead, investments will be made in areas that see racial disparities, the Citizen Times said.

That seems, to me, to be a reasonable approach to addressing the topic.
Awesome! I'm moving to Asheville! Can't wait to get my reparations. I'm mostly white but have slave ancestors, looking forward to that free house and business they're going to give me.

The money will NOT go to Blacks. It will go to pay for another Bureaucracy and "Commission" where these Woke idiots get paid $100K a year for a job two nights a week, to do nothing and devise a scheme for more Government.

This is just another excuse to grow government. Watch. Oh maybe they will build a park and a Rec center or two.

Meanwhile in other cities, this reparations is called opportunity zones. They are just re-branding it to signal how virtuous they are. If I was a black person in Asheville, I'd puke at this.

It's similar to Tim SCott's Opportunity Zone that Republicans love so much. Same idea.
Why would it be "similar to" since Buncombe County has FIVE Opportunity Zones, unless it's merely virtue signalling?

Default Liberal Lunacy: North Carolina city votes to approve reparations for Black residents

I really fear for the future of this nation if liberalism becomes the main ideology!

Good for Asheville. Republicans are afraid to lead and better the country. After November, that will be less of a problem.
