Are you a taxpaying resident of Asheville? If not, you got no worries I reckon.

Not by her, you weren't. It was me.

If you've been to Asheville in the last 15 years, this shouldn't surprise you. If you don't live in Asheville, this shouldn't/doesn't concern you.

Simple.

Are you against economic development? Like any business, sometimes you have to invest to make money.

Right? So many triggered folks in this thread...

Asheville is undoubtedly the most liberal city in the state, FYI.

From the linked article:

The reparations won’t come in the form of direct payments to black residents — instead, investments will be made in areas that see racial disparities, the Citizen Times said.

That seems, to me, to be a reasonable approach to addressing the topic.
So more taxes for resident to go to something that doesn't exist. Not reasonable to me.

So if you disagree you're "triggered". So now you want to censor opposing thought, right?

Reparations are just another way for government to steal money from the taxpayer and grow themselves.

Given that Asheville is the "San Francisco" of North Carolina, any reparations paid out will probably be in the form of a "dollar off coupon" at the local Starbucks.

But why not do something for the black communities? Its the least this country can do after its horrific treatment of blacks over the past 400 years (much longer than Germany's treatment of Jews and America's treatment of Japanese people.) The Native Americans have their reservations and can even legally build Casinos on those reservations in states that dont allow casinos and I believe Japanese people got reparations after World War 2 if I'm not mistaken. But its not just about slavery. Black alive people today have lived through the Jim Crow era and today's generation is being targeted by law enforcement. So this is not a situation where injustice only happened to slaves in the 1700s to 1800s.
Bingo.

Jim Crow. Redlining. These things didn't only apply to ADOS - they applied to every person with black skin.

Jim Crow ended a LONG time ago and did not exist in much of the country. It was mainly a southern thing that largely ended in the 1950's. The 1964 Civil Rights Act codified it as illegal. Reparations are just another excuse to grow government and steal more money form the taxpayer.

Many European immigrants were also blacklisted for many places of employment and saw huge prejudice. Italians, Irish, Polish, Jews, etc. Should they receive reparations?

Don't wear yourself out knocking down that straw man, OK?

You should definitely move out of Asheville, then.
