That's one thing I don't get. I see some conservatives for years constantly bemoaning that schools are teaching liberal ideas, how horrible they have become, etc. Now they are clamoring for their kids to get back there no matter what. So... Which is it? Are schools bad or good?

Huh? Sweden was not praised for its response. https://newsroom.uvahealth.com/2020/...ths-in-sweden/

Keeping the schools closed is going to rob many children of a future. Not all children belong to families with educated parents who can homeschool them.

It's propaganda news in order to sway people's opinion and thinking.

They tell you what they want you to hear. And in this case they want people to think it's ok to send your kids back to school in spite of this virus.

Think about it. You homeschool or enroll in a private virtual school then that is tax money lost for each kid that doesn't show up.

Well, you'll never know if your locality will be successful in reopening schools until it tries. You'll never know if students can play football until they try. Of course, precautions should be taken, such as taking temps. The spike in my locality is now in reverse, so opening will probably be successful.

There are other options...virtual schools. Established virtual schools.

No, those are not great options. Many kids don't have computers or proper quiet environments at home.

Stop being cowards, and open the schools. We're supposed to value our kids over our grandparents. One have lived their lives, and the other didn't.

Yes, and this is a huge problem.

It's being called "COVID slide" in our school district. (Maybe everywhere it's called that?)

There are successful students who have kept up with their academics, and will continue to do so if they're at home learning, but there's a very large percentage of students who have done absolutely zero of their assignments since March, and will be unlikely to do any of their work until they are physically back in the classroom.

In 1-3 grades, this is CRITICAL that students who were on the edge of being behind not fall further behind until they can't catch up with their peers. A student who isn't reading on grade level when he exits 3rd grade is very highly likely not to graduate.

Early learning has to happen.

Go read up on some recent stats of how many teachers have retired/left since June.
Not everyone is willing to "take one for the team".

There are guidelines for reopening schools and development districts need to follow the guidance. We have states with higher infection rates than entire countries so Sweden is a poor example.
