WASHINGTON — Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, announced Tuesday he would support moving forward on a vote to confirm a Supreme Court nominee to fill Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's seat, signaling Democrats may be unable to block President Donald Trump's effort to add a conservative justice to the court.

"The Constitution gives the President the power to nominate and the Senate the authority to provide advice and consent on Supreme Court nominees," Romney said in a statement, citing historical precedent on Supreme Court nominees. "Accordingly, I intend to follow the Constitution and precedent in considering the President’s nominee. If the nominee reaches the Senate floor, I intend to vote based upon their qualifications."

It's officially a wrap as far as I'm concerned. Watch the left return to their days of hurling insults at Mittens

That's good news.

Collins (ME) and Murkowski (AK) may be the lone holdouts on the Republican side.

If that's the case, the nominee will be confirmed with 51 votes if only all Republicans give a YES vote.

Mancin (WV) is a toss up, if he joins the Republicans with a YES.

Hurling insults? Shoot, he'd better wear bullet proof armour and have a taste tester for his food. Those people are rabid. There's no telling what they'd do.

I always attempt to refrain from guessing, or making bold predictions in advance of an event.

I’m here to say however that I believe a new justice will be sworn in soon.

We don't even know who the nominee is yet; how can you be so sure she will be confirmed?
Oh right, because Senate republicans can't think for themselves, but go along with whatever der Fuhrer says.

I will believe Romney when I see HOW he actually votes. Having a vote and saying how you will vote are two different things.

You see, that's the beauty of President Trump putting forth a wonderful list of potential nominees. We have known exactly for years now the people that POTUS is considering for SCOTUS vacancies. We know exactly that it will be someone from that list, which people (to include Senators) have been vetting for a while I'm sure

Note, this may very well be what saves Romney from defeat when he is next up for election.

I'm not freaking out about another conservative on court.

So I'm not one of the ones who is outraged. I think it is typical politics...and that's what Americans vote for. When your team can you support them doing what they can. It is what it is.

BUT.......this will give an energy to the Democrats that many may underestimate.

This is golden for Trump and the Republican loyal base....but it does little for Independents and swing voters that don't have the same commitment to conservative social policies (hence the reason they aren't full on Republicans).

Some red state polls show Trump/Biden in a virtual tie. Not banking on the polls -- but let's just talk about the 'trend'.....that's not a trend that is good for Trump.

If red states are showing potential ties --- what about those swing states.

It's going to be close -- and not because of some kind of mail in ballot scandal -- because the last election was close, because the USA is so divided....etc.
