No, the senate did not have a chance to support or not support the pick. The Republican party made a strategic decision to let the blame fall on McConnell instead of giving voters the ability to voice their opinion on their elected senator's decision. That is a subversion of democracy.
They absolutely had the chance, the leader of the Senate, supported by the majority, decided not to waste time on a non-starter.
Democrats were outraged because their stance was that the Senate HAD to have a vote, now Democrats are taking the exact opposite stance like the hypocrites they are and the Republicans are still saying it's their choice one way or the other.

Well if Trump wins, there's no chance the Democrats take the Senate. As I said, it's looking like 50-50 is the most likely outcome as of right now, but if Trump is elected that likely pushes at least one more Senate race in his favor, possibly 2.
There's a difference between "stacking the court" which would essentially be Democrats deciding to burn down the entire system because they can't win without changing the rules and merely nominating judges when natural vacancies occur. Stacking the court would almost certainly lead to members of congress being killed by the public because it would be outright corruption and tyranny on display.
While extremists might support that kind of thing, the consequences would be dire.
Be prepared for more liberal violence unfortunately.
Protect your businesses and support local government that believes in law enforcement and crowd dispersal, not in anarchy like NY, Seattle, and Portland.
Like I've said before this will bite Republicans in the rear when Dems take the senate next year. They will start ramming through nominees to the court without Republicans having a say at all and it will be marvelous.
Thomas and Bryer might be retiring during Bidens term so the Dems should play it crooked like Republicans. I still think they should stack the court but seems Feinstein has some opposition to it.
They were doing exactly that under Reid and Obama. All you are seeing is the Democrats own rotten dirty politics coming back on them. This is what happens when Democrats play dirty, they forever change the process.
The repubs can never assume the dems will follow established rules and laws. Obama violated federal laws and the Constitution all the time. The dems are lawless, and they are liars.
What does push independents over to the republican side though, is the insane reaction of the dems.
Once the lunatic side of the dems gets riled up, the more the election tilts to Trump.
I think you'll find that Joe Biden is taking a calm, measured approach to the issue, which contrasts with both the chicanery of the Republicans and the knee-jerk reaction of House democrats:

The Republicans nominating and picking a new justice for the SCOTUS, is simply them following established law.
The Democrat's response is to promise to violate the law, and force changes only to benefit their political party. We saw Reid do it, we saw Obama do it. The dems are lawless, anarchists, who will do anything for power, just look at their Marxist BLM thugs in the streets.

That's not quite what happened, but feel free to continue that fantasy.
....that's exactly what happened kiddo. If the Senate liked the pick, they'd be on the bench. They didn't, so the decided to wait for a better option.
It's their choice one way or the other. It was then, it is now.
