You don't get it. Its not about defending your home. That is already the law, and that is fine, because people have the right to defend themselves. This law will allow people to use lethal force when they suspect someone is breaking into a closed gas station that has nothing to do with you. Heck it allows lethal force against people drawing graffiti, which is often kids.

Based on the posts, the idea of it brings a smile on certain people's faces, but the law is problematic for the reasons already stated on this thread.

All of a sudden the same people who have been saying the use of lethal force is limited to defending yourself when your life is in imminent danger, are suddenly saying its ok to kill people when they are drawing graffiti on someone else's business.

unintended consequences
I haven't heard of any threats of violence from the MAGA crowd. If there are any that you're aware of, how do they compare with the riots, looting, and burnings in Minneapolis, New York, Portland, Atlanta, and any number of other cities?

I can't speak for the 'left', but I live in Florida and I like our Stand Your Ground laws just the way they are written as of today. This new proposal is stupid. Period. DeSantis is a Trump ass-kisser which is probably why he is coming up with this nonsense which is hailed only by the hard core Trump loyalists. Maybe he thinks imitating the Trump-talk would pave his political road. I doubt it will work.

No clue who you are referring to, but its also fairly annoying to hear people like you who live in California to moan and whine about your State. Why don't you move.

To those opposed, what should someone do if their place of business is being broken into by a large group of people?

If your answer is anything along the lines of "allow yourself to be victimized and hope the police can make it right later", you need to be quiet and let the grown-ups talk.

No one should EVER be expected to allow themselves to be victimized like that.

Where in the draft legislation does DeSantis' proposal extend beyond Stand Your Ground?
