Maybe the average person may think twice about it, but there are a lot of people who even with the best intentions, are going to make bad judgments. Botham Jean was shot in his own apartment... by a police officer. Considering how much bad decision-making is out there, introducing even more grey area regarding when someone can take another person's life is not the direction I would push for. Those types of mistakes, you can't take back.
I support "stand your ground" and any expansion of it.
Per the article in the OP:
"Gov. Ron DeSantis has drafted “anti-mob” legislation that would expand Florida’s Stand Your Ground law — a move that critics say will allow armed citizens to shoot suspected looters or anyone engaged in “criminal mischief” that disrupts a business."
Hey, let me give everyone a tip, don't want to get shot, don't commit crimes. It is just so simple. Looters breaking out your windows, well, I don't see why anyone would have an issue, because these are violent people who are threatening your life. No expansion even needed there. After a few get shot, it may discourage others.
(1)(a) A person commits the offense of criminal mischief if he or she willfully and maliciously injures or damages by any means any real or personal property belonging to another, including, but not limited to, the placement of graffiti thereon or other acts of vandalism thereto.
So you would shoot to kill if you catch anyone drawing graffiti on your property? You don’t think that’s just a little bit disproportionate?
No one should have to testify, in court, that they were afraid for their lives in order to pull a trigger. They also have a constitutional right to their property.
I think you have that bass ackwards. No one should pull a trigger unless their life is in danger.
Well when or if the law is signed the criminals will know it may be a consequence. So break into a store with the knowledge that you have the chance of getting shot. It might make you think twice wouldn't it?
exactly, these thugs think they can do whatever and no one will do anything! doing it right in front of the cops. you betcha floridas thugs will all just sit it out!!
This would be one of the greatest developments to civilization:
"DeSantis also wants to make it a third-degree felony to block traffic during a protest — and offer immunity to drivers who accidentally kill or injure protesters who do so, according to the Herald."
