Poor parenting in my opinion.

I get it cancel culture is way overblown but by the same token you want to play stupid games (and say stupid things) you win stupid prizes. Congrats.
show me one person who in their lifetime has never said anything "stupid". Just one.

If it’s ok for him to ruin this girl’s life over an internet video then he is certainly game for discussion of his sexuality based on photos he himself has posted online.

These are the unintended consequences of bringing national attention to ones self.
Based on your own expertise? Also... why is that any concern of yours?

It's not OK for him to ruin this girl's life. It's vindictive, petty, and unfair. But what's worse is the system that allows for that pettiness to be effective. Seems like the focus should be on that, not the kid's sexuality. Not sure why that's even a little bit important in this conversation? I'm less bothered by a teenager wearing lipstick and making faces at the camera than I am by adults who fixate on that detail rather than the larger issues with this whole story.

We all say plenty of stupid, and even offensive things. Most of us have the sense not to record it and post it publicly in a location where it will live forever.

If you can't be stupid when you're 15, when the hell can you be? It's hard enough for adults to live in a world with a quickly vanishing sense of grace, never mind teenagers. If the online mob decides one day you've offended them in some way, they won't care a whit how hard you strove not to.

The people who run the institutions that gave him this kind of power are the scum. The the pitchfork-wielders at the NYT and the spineless cowards at UT should be ashamed of themselves.
The leaders at Tennessee are very woke. You wouldn't expect it in Knoxville, but its true.

You seem rather defensive about his sexuality being discussed. Perhaps if he had not filled the internet with photos of himself posing in very feminine ways nobody would be discussing it ... just exactly how if this girl hadn’t filmed herself using the n-word we wouldn’t be discussing that, either.

Are you understanding now how this whole thing works?

I think cancel culture has gone way too far. But I do think it's important that people learn accountability for their actions. Should a college student potentially have their life ruined for uttering a slur when they were 15? No way. But the rest of the world should use these examples as lessons - think about what you say, and make damn sure you don't record/post anything that can be used against you later on.

I do find it odd that a bunch of (presumably) grown adults on this thread wasted zero time before speculating about a teenager's sexuality. That's more telling to me than any of the "news" about the way this video was used. The kid definitely leveraged the system for maximum effect, but maybe focus the conversation on what's wrong with the system rather than trying to guess what's making him tick sexually... that's just weird.
for holding this stupid grudge for three years and ruining someones life.......... he should be dissected on a lab table...... literally........

Was the dude who blew up her spot petty and vindictive? Absolutely. Should she have been dropped from the cheerleading program and pressured to leave school? Hell no. All of that is indicative of a systemic problem.

Both of those paragraphs can be true at the same time.
You really haven't been paying attention these last few years if that's what you believe. We live in an era where a 19th century photograph of miners with soot on their faces has been deemed "offensive." Where a 12 year old girl with box-braids is taken to task for "cultural appropriation." Where Helen Keller is spoken of as being "privileged."

It's not about what is said, but who says it.
