The only measurable thing these so-called "variants" have done, is make a bunch of nervous nellies nibble their nails even harder. They're good for harrowing headlines, but cases in the U.S. just keep dropping.
Point is cases are not declining.........they are rising.
If this trend of decline in the Western half continues over the next few weeks while the Northwest and Midwest rise (South is pretty much staying flat) it might be due to other factors.

Get over yourself, NOBODY is going to wear a mask forever. But because it was on again, off again with mask rules and social distancing, by people more afraid of losing a buck than many lives, we are biggest LOSER (of lives) in the world. Even Trump clone denier in Brazil couldnt beat our death toll. And Europe is going into yet another death spiral cause the greedy there couldnt wait it out.
Now look at New Zealand and even China, they took it serious and they mostly are leading normal lives. Humans are infamous for short term selfish thinking. We got it here in abundance.

The book The Great Influenza, by John Barry posited that the Spanish Flu started near a Kansas military base. The author now believes it was more likely to have started in China. I have no love for the CCP but it did not exist circa 1917 or 1918. I think the intersection of animals and humans makes China a fertile ground for development of contagious diseases. That will only change if and when China emerges into the First World.
