I’ve defended the protests here(while still calling for the violent offenders to be arrested). But we took a little driving tour around downtown for the first time in a few months and it’s gotten so bad. And the targets make no sense from any sort of social justice notion unlike the prior focus around the courthouse. Mercedes dealership, Tiffany store, Gucci? Those are all fine. Boys and Girls club, employment outreach offices, homeless missions, public parks and other things trying to help just a minute down the road...trashed. Even little mom and pop restaurants. Even the tone of the graffiti has changed with a lot of it calling out Ted Wheeler. It’s a marked difference from just last year.

While it’s been obvious it’s the anarchists not aligned to any real cause that are causing the real trouble. Something seems weird about the noticeable change in what is being targeted. The lack of enforcement of vandalism and petty crimes appears to have emboldened a new set of folks out to sow chaos. Which really isn’t a surprising result.

While we were already relocating this summer due to going to help out elderly parents starting to have health issues. It is sad to see this beautiful city we love so trashed. I hope they figure some way out of this mess. Not sure what that would be. Wheeler’s opponent last time was just an outright extremist. Neither cracking down nor appeasement had worked. Crossing the first amendment doesn’t work. Left, right, and anarchists are pissed. Needs a solid centrist that can rise about the division but I don’t know who that would be or where that would come from with the major political parties happy to just divide and drive extreme partisanship.

The folks doing this have no purpose in life. This is the kind of crap people do when they have nothing better to do. These are the results of a generation that was largely misled by idiots. A lot of the idiots that support this are very wealthy and are more than happy to finance this sort of general chaos, destruction and social rot. You can try to make sense of it, but that is a pointless endeavor.

Just needs the will to enforce laws. Not complicated.

But thankyou for your honest observations of the carnage caused by leftwing politicians.

Not sure how you can try to blame partially conservatives for what has gone on in Portland. That doesn't happen in conservative majority areas.

These radical groups doing the riots are on the left. Don't blame shift.

Seattle, Portland, all the cities trashed in the Summer of Love will never rebound.

The trick is to never allow even a short period of rioting. Do allow solely 100% peaceful protesting.

If anyone loots, burns, gets violent, and others join them, that is when we need Law Enforcement and we must allow them in using overwhelming means to immediately end the rioting and looting and violence. Whether via simply a huge volume of tear gas, or more potent force, go get them.

Once you have those summer rioting nights, there is no turning back the clock. You are cooked.

Radicals on the right are here too and even travel from across the country to participate. And the new targets being hit now certainly aren’t ones that any actual liberal would go after. But the appeasement has allowed it to happen, no question. Reality is it’s mostly disaffected kids and young adults exploiting the cover of protests to get up to no good.

I would add Seattle to that list. Even Boeing wants out. I'm told it's gloomy and rainy all the time, and people are cold and distant. Doesn't sound like a fun way to live. There are definitely reasons companies have to pay people so much to work and live in these types of places.

These are no genuine protests. These are not your typical protesters. These are antisocial anarchistic soldiers determined to destroy US society. These are the same type of anarchists that engaged in terrorism against Seattle by the Occupy domestic terrorists back in the 1990s.

Quit calling them protests. These are riots, acts of vandalism, or vicious attacks on property. Quit using the euphemisms handed to you by

Well anarchists, BLM and Antifa basically got away with wrecking many parts of the city all last summer, no accountability so they knew they would be able to cause as much destruction as they want, with no punishment. The new DA refused to follow law and order in Portland, half the city council was corrupt and Mayor Ted Wheeler was also weak.... It was starting to go downhill in other ways too, but it's not fair for the citizens who live there.
