Let’s face it. Fear or riots and personal safety is going to trump any justice in this case. At the end of the day individuals are making these decisions.
These jurors could have simply said they can't be impartial and be excused. These jurors wanted to be on that jury. They probably already planned to convict so they were not concerned about riots or personal safety.
Many roads to a successful appeal are being paved. Imagine that...
Plan ahead for summer riots. Treat it like a Cat 5 hurricane. College kids will be out of school and fully indoctrinated... the training in Portland for the new rioters should be ready to deploy around the country... I am fully expecting it. I just can't imagine the elitists will pass up this opportunity for a massive hit on the country.
its a true test of the justice system. He should get a new trial, it shouldn't even be a question at this point(and i think he was guilty). But they will likely say that it doesn't matter that any juror would have convicted him and do anything they can not to allow a new trial, all in fear of mob violence.
Not only that but he was on a radio show saying how people have to get on jury’s “to affect change” which basically means he was not impartial going into it. It is also being reported that one juror had reservations about all charges, but this juror bullied others. He wanted to have deliberations that would be over in 20 minutes. These facts along with the fact that the judge refused to sequester the jury or move the trial out of Minneapolis I believe are grounds for appeal or mistrial. It will be interesting to see what other jurors say as time goes by.
Well someone does get a trial one deserves a fair legal trail. No matter how many thousands of blacks execute and kill other blacks and whites each year.
A lot of people get bad trials. They get sent to prison for a super long time a result of it. Most people in America get a bad trial. The justice system is super broken for just about anyone who isn't rich.
He's getting the same justice anyone else would get in this situation. Juste because he is a cop, doesn't mean he is the only one who gets a fair trial.
We can argue about how to fix the justice system. But its broken for everyone else, so it should be broken for him. And objectively speaking, he should be behind bars. If there was a video of me putting my knee on a guy's neck for 8 minutes. I wouldn't reasonably expect to be free any time soon.
What do we expect? For him to get a slap on the wrist? Maybe just lose his job? Get 6 months in jail max?
No, he needs to serve hard time. Like anyone else would.
