Honestly you should start reading about this rather than listen to soundbites or speculate.
Research for yourself rather than get fed information from second, third and fourth hand sources.

I read the long article. It explains why the US agencies wanted to steer focus away from the lab leak theory.
From the article: "State Department investigators say they were repeatedly advised not to open a “Pandora’s box.â€"
But then Trump blabbed. He saw documents, he couldn't keep quiet.
From the article: "Shi Zhengli (Bat Lady) herself listed U.S. government grant support of more than $1.2 million on her curriculum vitae: $665,000 from the NIH between 2014 and 2019; and $559,500 over the same period from USAID."
The article also pointed to Dr Ralph Baric of University of North Carolina as a collaborator and joint author with Shi Zhengli. UNC is one of three laboratories in the world that has the capability to manufacture a new virus.
"there is no treatment for this newly discovered virus".
Of course Fauci knew about all the gain of function research that is going on, and he knew what the government has been funding. If people keep digging, they'll also find out about military involvement. The Pandora's Box has been opened.

Daszak definitely wanted to keep the truth from coming out about Wuhan Institute of Virology being the source of the virus. Then he was part of the team sent in earlier this year to assess the situation in Wuhan. He made no effort for transparency or tangible information whatsoever. It was all play-acting. Let's pretend we're going to do some serious probing here in China, and check a silly box.

Daszak's 'investigation' into the lab was such a joke! But nobody could point that out back then. Only 'conspiracy theorists' doubted the official story.

Gain of function sounds like the sort of harebrained nonsense that **** for brains "experts" and greedy pigs slobber over to inflate their egos and wallets.
Who cares if a few million, or even a few hundred million die from natural viruses? .... not me, that's for sure - better to take a few smaller hits, the way humanity has for eons, than screw around with technology that could really wipe us out.
12 Monkeys really was a clever movie and it's key point was that it really didn't matter who made/released the virus, just that once you have the ability to tinker with viruses, the worst case scenario is far worse than anything experienced before.

Unbelievable conclusion! The fact is the pandemic started. Once it started, the world needed to take the necessary steps to slow the spread of the virus. Because the necessary steps were not taken, 3.7M people in the world are dead. The USA had one of the worst responses in the world with the most deaths, and ranking 18th highest in the world for death per 1M population.
