Yes, but a live speech is more likely to contain an error than a written release - that's just the nature of live speeches. If there was consistent advice to not talk to neighbours, it would be big news.

Wouldn't an airborne virus be able to be caught by walking past the wrong person?

According to this article, New Zeeland's strategy is sustained elimination. Even after the vaccine has fully rolled out. I'm sincerely wishing NZ the best of luck on that.

Nope, sustained elimination until high vaccine rates are achieved.

Per your link, “ going hard and early worked before ( on a national level).

NZ has imposed multiple Level 4 restrictions on municipalities and only once before on a national basis.

It’s only 2 weeks and the people generally comply. Those infected are required to self isolate in designated hotels.

What has and will works again in NZ with a population of 5 million does not scale well to a country with a population of 328 million.

Death and destruction in NZ? I think not.

It’s 2 weeks for crying out loud. It worked before and will work again.

It’s an island nation with a population of 5000. The people receive a monetary stipend for the inconvenience.

The greatest hit to their economy is the loss of tourism.

The virus is there. One confirmed case. NZ is intent on preventing the spread.

It does not have the medical infrastructure to respond to a serious surge.

What has and will again work for NZ does not scale to a place like the US.

Mixed bag. Tourism has suffered as it has everywhere.

And this is precisely why the authoritarian approch won't, and can't work in North America, due not ony to our porous borders, but our instinctive trust of too much authority,
What has worked and will work again for a country with 5 million people does not scale to a country with 328 million, especially when millions continue to perceive Covid a hoax or nothing more than the common cold.
