According to this article, New Zeeland's strategy is sustained elimination. Even after the vaccine has fully rolled out. I'm sincerely wishing NZ the best of luck on that.

Nope, sustained elimination until high vaccine rates are achieved.
Just matter of time the virus will get there look at what happened to Vietnam they think they defeated the Covid last year guess what the virus is there now.
The virus is there. One confirmed case. NZ is intent on preventing the spread.
It does not have the medical infrastructure to respond to a serious surge.
What has and will again work for NZ does not scale to a place like the US.
Please read a bit more carefully; New Zealand has had over 2000 cases of COVID -- but the vast majority were ideintifired and quarantined early, (and the country's relative isolation probably helped with this).
The "one case of COVID" actually refers to the only known case of the Delta variant. Assuming this figure turns out to be true, and holds, it provides a unique opportunity to study the threat.

What has worked and will work again for a country with 5 million people does not scale to a country with 328 million, especially when millions continue to perceive Covid a hoax or nothing more than the common cold.
