A senior Taliban commander said Thursday that they had issued an alert to their top leadership on the threat posed by ISIS-K.
The group arrested an ISIS terrorist at the airport a few days ago who told them about the network and their plans, he said, speaking on condition of anonymity and without elaborating.
So yes the Taliban knew something was in the works.
The Taliban has denied the alleged executions, stating in a Twitter post on Wednesday that the accusation is "fictitious" and accusing CNN of fabricating video evidence.
I’m glad he didn’t listen. We will be there forever if its up to our military. Once those 5,000 Taliban fighters were released we were on the clock.
Everyone won’t get out, some will be killed by the Taliban.
This is why its called war.
Are you serious?! Had he listened we wouldn't be in this mess! Again, we are not mad that he ended the war, it's HOW. HE. WITHDREW. We could've prevented the Taliban from taking back control and got everyone out with much much much MUCH fewer casualties. There were so many other options and had Biden listened to his military personnel (seeing as they're literally being paid to do that) this could've been prevented.
What a sick and twisted comment. then again, not surprised knowing who it's coming from. You should grab your soap box and preach this joke of a comment to the families in the US who will never see their loved ones again.
But what do you care? Trump is gone so that's all that matters to people like you.
I cannot for the life of me understand the Taliban's thinking on this issue. They want all westerners out of Afghanistan so why not issue a time line that is reasonable for all countries involved to verify visa, passport holders.
If they start up with the wonton killing of civilians, they're just begging for an armed response.
The singular reason why they're preventing people from leaving is because their blood lust is up and they want to kill all those they think might have aided the U.S. and other western countries.
I'm still flummoxed as to why there are so many remining in Afghanistan when it was well known for over a year there would be a total withdrawal. Anyone living there with first hand knowledge of the Afghani army's demonstrated capability should have got their families out of there ASAP.
We'll see if they're still singing praises for the Taliban when videos of westerners getting their heads lopped off start surfacing next month.
Congratulations, Clara. You've gone above and beyond your duty. Not only have you allowed yourself to be propagandized by your own country's media, but you're now carrying water for the Taliban, as well. I can't even imagine what it's like to be so easily swayed on literally any topic. You're like a leaf blowing in the wind.
Thanks. You've explained it. I was having a hard time understanding but you figured it out. Only thing I could think of is brainwashing.
Man people have short term memories LOL. You can blame bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld for damn near all military deaths since 2001. Not Biden. We never needed any boots on the ground in either Afghanistan or Iraq. Undercover CIA and drone strikes would have sufficed. Not pointless long drawn out wars with NO end game
This all goes back to them. Sorry
Certainly the blame is spread out over several presidents and their advisors. We had good reason to be engaged at some level in Afghanistan -- not Iraq. We should never have been in Afghanistan in such force and for so long -- but the American people allowed it to go on with out question until it goes sour at the end. We seem to be trapped in the Douglas MacArthur model of our military excursions: anything can be solved if you put enough boots on the ground. That was the model in Vietnam and we can't get away from it.
We really need to reconsider our adventures of this sort -- who is getting rich from such military ventures. A shoulder-fired Javelin missile costs $175,203 for each one (Lockheed Martin). A few years ago Ukraine bought $39 million worth of Javelins -- maybe 225 or so -- so our various invasion events serve as a demo for arms dealers. I once heard an arms dealer refer to the Falklands War as a "field test of conventional weapons" in a sales pitch.
There also seems to be barely disguised squeals of delight among right-wingers that the exit from Afghanistan has not been a smooth one. These things never are. I recall the withdrawal under Nixon was not a walk in the park. Why would this one be any different. Most American defense contractors were already out of the country. Most "contractors" that we hear about were not Americans. Now Eric Prince, (AKA Blackwater's Johnny on the spot) wants to charge $6500 each to transport people to the Kabul Airport. Why are we not surprised.
This seems extremely threatening to those on the far right, that Biden isn't being hanged at sunrise over this awful situation, that there are those who are pulling together and trying to get through this.
Together.
Oh please, spare me your nonsense. Biden had every resource at his disposal to avoid this and chose not to use them. He ignored military personnel and even the CIA who pulled out 6 weeks ago. Biden should be impeached.
