Citing the draft opinion--- showing the Supreme Court ready to overturn Roe v. Wade--- Republicans in the Louisiana House advanced a bill, yesterday, that would classify abortion as homicide and allow prosecutors to criminally charge women.
The legislation, goes one step further than the other antiabortion bans in states which focus on punishing abortion providers and others who help facilitate the procedure. Experts say the bill could also restrict in vitro fertilization and emergency contraception because it would grant constitutional rights of personhood “from the moment of fertilization.” What this bill does is to specifically amend the crime of homicide and the crime of criminal battery to enable the state to charge people, including the pregnant mother, at any stage of fertilization. The rights of zygotes, blastocysts, embryos etc will supersede the rights of a woman.
Louisiana is one of 13 states that has a “trigger law,” which would make abortion illegal as soon as Roe is overturned. But antiabortion advocates in Louisiana said that legislation will not go far enough. Enter the bill that will enable the GOP to charge women with homicide for personal reproductive medical care.
It goes without saying numerous pastors and church groups were on the committee drafting this outrageous bill. Per one, named Brian Gunter, a Louisiana pastor: “I know we have a trigger law and it says that abortion providers have to pay a $1,000 fine … that is woefully insufficient.”
Still wanna pretend the "pro-life" movement isn't really about hating women?
Still wanna hide from the truth that the Republicans are pushing theocracy over democracy?
Still wanna mock the Democratic Party that wants to expand rights and freedoms for all of us, while cheering the GOP as they restrict them?

That is absolutely terrifying. Can you link to the bill? I'd love to know who's behind it.
How far will they have to travel to get that abortion?
Don't bother to answer. I heard a story on the news the other night of a woman who piled her kids in the car and drove from Texas to Virginia to get an abortion. Then turned around and drove back so she could get to work the next day
Only if they find out they are pregnant, book an appointment, collect enough money, and get the prescription filled within the 6 week limit in TX, could be less in some states. IF they miss that cut off then they have to find a doctor in another state, book an appointment out of state, arrange time off of work to travel, collect even more money to travel, and get the prescription filled.

Some names of the Republican legislators appear in these articles about the Louisiana Bill that is making progress and would make abortion a crime of homicide:

Texas to Virginia, when there are closer states she could have gone to, like Oklahoma .. or even right across the border to Mexico? Sounds like it was for other reasons than simply abortion. Smollett, anyone?

The long trip probably had to do with where she could manage to get an appointment.

I don't have any additional info. It was just an example of the kind of nonsense women will have to endure to get a couple of abortion pills.
