I don’t think many do fully grasp what they are doing partially because when we speak of abortion people say things like, “it’s just a clump of cells” or that it’s a parasite rather than a human being. Recognizing that it’s a viable, healthy human and then being on board with allowing women to kill it at that point shows some cognitive dissonance.
People do have different values and concepts. The term clump of cells does accurately describe it for a time, the description lacks the emotional component. The emotions, the circumstances is what differs. If a woman wants to abort it’s on her and it only matters how she defines the pregnancy. Women girls know if they don’t abort they will have a baby at some point. There is a percentage that goes into denial I knew several girls that had babies but they just didn’t think about or plan for the eventual birth till it happened. I suspect this is why some end up with second trimester abortions. Third trimester abortions are not the same and should be a subject on its own. To lump it together with the majority of abortions that happen first trimester leaves out all the medical complications that arise making the pregnancy non viable.

It’s actually never, “just a clump”of cells. That description is not accurate scientifically. It’s not about emotion.
If a women wants to abort, she probably should figure that out as quickly as possible because the other life matters too and the earlier and less developed, the better.
Late term abortions for convenience should be outlawed because killing a viable, sentient being is generally considered to be murder.
