Equality is a double edged sword, why should the age for woman be higher? If the age of registering for selective service (which is what we have now) was raised it should be the same for both sexes. Those who wish to enlist can do so at a younger age, I went in at 17 with parental approval.
Are those in favor of raising the voting age also in favor of removing the voting rights of seniors? I mean young people can be inexperienced and all, but seniors can have dementia and other cognitive issues that really affect judgement.
So don't let them vote but let them be leader of the free world?
I strongly agree. I don't know why the majority in the poll don't agree, unless the majority are quite conservative and would never ever trust most 18 to 20 years old to vote straight Republican. Yet, a number of them would really vote straight Republican, but they would deny them the opportunity to do so.
Or it could be like me - I think they BOTH need to be moved to 21. I felt that way when the voting age was originally changed.

I propose we go back to where only land owners can vote. That works for me. Certainly, if you pay no taxes, you should not be able to vote and certainly not on any issue involving tax dollars in any way. If you pay no federal taxes, you should not be able to vote in federal elections.
It's a long establish fact that young people have poor judgement and poor decision making skills. In fact, it's widely believed that many people don't possess adult-level judgement/reasoning skills until the age of 25..
Well, I have known people in their 50's and 60's, and even older who have poor judgement and poor decision making skills too. So, by that reckoning maybe nobody should vote!
But then again I know people of all age groups who show good judgement and good
decision making skills.

No thank you. I say we stick with the current arrangement we have. Voting is for all American citizens 18 and over. If you're old enough to be drafted, or be given the death penalty, you should be able to vote, period. By the way, what you're suggesting is unconstitutional.
Well, they are saying your brain is not fully developed untill you are 25......so voting age should be 25. That is why we have biden as president......to many people with under developed brains voting.
I agree. Far too many young adults vote with their emotions rather than their brains. Many have been indoctrinated in our schools and need to learn to think for themselves instead. They need to get out in the world first and experience life before voting. They need to study the issues and the candidates first and vote based on facts not emotions.
I agree with the comparison to literary tests but the second part will never fly. Even a modern interpretation of the WPA ensuring some type of public service will be rife with corruption on one end and fought tooth and nail against it at the other. Its a good idea but only for other kids, not my child if you know what I mean...
"Fortunate Son" by Creedence comes to mind. The rich create wars for the poor to fight to increase their profits.
