After a plea bargain, they aren't tried for the original charges and accordingly, have not been found guilty of the original crimes.

Legally they couldn't be excluded from the pardoned group for crimes that were dismissed before trial. Often additional crimes are bargained away. I would hate to see anyone released on a pardon who had other serious non-marijuana crimes dismissed.

Otherwise, I'm okay with the pardon. Trump should have done it when he had the chance.

If the prior administration could and did pardon the likes of Stone, Bannon, Flynn and his son-in-law's father then as far as I'm concerned smoking some weed is the least reprehensible offence to earn a Presidential pardon.

Certainly a mid term sleight of hand trick.

It's a meaningless gesture most have other more serious charges on them!

Absolutely agree. I don't indulge, but this is a no brainer.

That is a good point. Trump pardoned those part of his inner circle. There is no justification in pardoning Mannafort except that he did not write a tell all book about Trump or do negative interviews. Bannon same thing.

Plea bargaining.

But the often charge people on charges that they know will not stick in order to get a plea deal. Its impossible to know what the real truth is. However if these people are career criminals they will likely have a record for these other crimes and letting this one thing go won't change anything.

Its called politics. Both parties play this game. Trump could have taken this off the table by doing this 2 years ago.

Trump had that opportunity to get more votes, why didn't he?

No one is in Federal prison just because of "simple marijuana" possession. These criminals had weapons charges and other offenses that were plead down to get a conviction. The other charges should be reinstated before releasing these people back on the streets.
