I scanned through some posts but did not see that. I assume they said more than 150.
Business Insider is guessing based on data available. There is not an actual number readily available. But I assume they are in the ball park. Maybe 200 or 100.
I have no issue with this. I believe it is a crime worthy of fines or whatever, not prison and certainly not at the federal level.
We keep hearing prisons are too overcrowded to get some seriously dangerous people off the streets. This should make some room for them.
While I don't have a problem with Biden's action here per se, touching on the bolded part of your statement, I'd be shocked if there are any inmates in federal prison today for simple marijuana possession, especially in light of the First Step Act signed into law by President Trump. Do many have federal convictions for simple marijuana possession? Absolutely, but my point is that pardon probably isn't necessary to get anyone out of prison in this instance.

New York Post estimates there are about 6500 people who will receive pardons. This includes non-incarcerated people. It's true the feds haven't made a big deal out of simple possession for a long time. I've read estimates of around 150 people in prison, but there seems to be some disagreement on this. https://nypost.com/2022/10/06/biden-...na-possession/
Nevertheless, if you spend a lot of time traveling and/or camping on federal lands, as I do, this is significant news.
And it is even more significant that he is directing a new review of Schedule 1.
Keep in mind these pardons are for simple possession, not distributing. So no, if you are caught importing pounds from Mexico, this pardon will not apply to you.

Keep in mind that most of these convictions got pled down from more serious charges like possession with intent to sell (distribution).
Good move, but they should exclude those who pled down from more serious crimes.
