There's many a smoker, with their disgusting, nasty habit that have outlived non-smokers who may have been killed in a car accident, had a massive heart attack or were victims of a natural catastrophe.
I spend my winters in Vegas , so from time to time I have drove down the strip with the top down , just to be entertained by all the drunks on the crowded street. Drinking is far and away the most visible effect on all the three day fools who just flew in for free and ITS PARTY TIME ! I am sure smoking anything that will burn is part of the behavior however smoking is really not welcome in Nevada , so much is hidden , my guess. Sure the casinos are full of smokers , especially the local places off the Strip. If you live in Vegas area you have some very nice upscale places to party and gamble. We only go downtown for shows , in and out , and try not to spend any money there , it’s all a rip off!
Except Pot was just made legal and many are taking full advantage smoking it everywhere they go. I wonder when the casino's will start handing out free pot edibles or joints like they do booze in order to cater to and draw away gamblers...
I don't see the connection between smoking in public and a fat "kid" eating six twix.
The overeater is not hurting anyone but himself, but the smoker is hurting many because we have to breathe second-hand smoke and for those of us who are allergic to the smoke, we get to become all congested and wind up with a sore throat and coughing. Then what it's doing to our lungs is not so great either.
Someone eating twix doesn't affect me at all and I never heard that passing gas is going to ruin anyone's health. Yes, it's unpleasant but isn't going to damage anyone's health.

Finally one day she noticed a lot of bleeding and went to the doctor. He discovered stage 4 cancer, cancer that could have been cured had she had her Pap smears. And she would have had them if she were a decent body weight. By the time the doctor discovered the problem it was too late, and she died when she was just 45. Her kids lost a mom way too young. Fat people like to believe being fat only hurts themselves. It allows them to demonize smokers/drinkers/whateverers while taking no responsibility for their own unhealthy habits. But being unhealthy, no matter how that is, hurts not only the individual, but everyone who loves the unhealthy person.

You missed my point completely. And it is a very good one. Not only did my mother die indirectly from obesity, most of us are affected directly by fat kids eating 6 Twix bars. How? Because we are paying higher taxes and higher insurance rates because of other people's health problems directly caused by their obesity. When other people develop blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes from overweight, we all pay. But people such as yourself don't make that connection.
No, because they can't be trusted to protect he vast majority from being assaulted with tobacco effluent.
or did you mean to say you dont have enough sense to stay out of a business that allows its customers to smoke? FYI you are not entitled to eat at a certain restaurant or drink in a certain bar.
You seem to have a childlike view of the world, but sorry the responsibility to avoid such establishments is all yours.
I have done an about face once realizing I've walked into an establishment that allows smoking, but have never thought "there oughta be a law" to accommodate my preference to not be around second hand smoke. America has truly become a nation of spoiled children in this regard.
I do think its best if private co's put signage up that state they allow smoking inside (I have seen it done here and there) and and dedicated outdoor smoking areas should be away from the entrance, but again I can vote with my feet and dollars and go elsewhere.
Should public spaces be off limits to smoking? Well there really is no such thing as public property, there is however govt property (a.k.a. magical entity owned) that we have no say over and my prefrence is to eliminate that condition.

Paying is not the same as having your personal health threatened. Your obesity does not cause me to have high blood pressure.

Booze ( and beer) are still the most popular way to get drunk , I do not see that changing any time soon.

And considering that the vast majority of public spaces now ban smoking, someone else's smoking doesn't affect you either. And even if they are smoking nearby, you can walk around it. So what's the complaint again? Of yeah, this is yet another "Let's hate on smokers for no reason" thread

Too many smokers stand in front of the entrance of no-smoking businesses and if you want to enter, you have to walk through their smoke. I don't want to breathe it or stink like a smoker.
