The new CAFE standards for actual light trucks are lower than they are for cars. One big difference is that SUVs will no longer be classified as light trucks. So you will still be able to buy your F250 4x4.
CAFE miles per gallon are computed differently than EPA miles per gallon; the EPA figure is lower than the CAFE figure. A car that gets an EPA mpg of 29 will get a CAFE mpg of 39. A light truck that gets an EPA mpg of 23 will get a CAFE mpg of 30.
We'll be back to riding horses by the time this thing kicks in if the EPA has their way so I'm not too worried about it. Just need to buy up some good stallions.
Heard a bit about this yesterday. Hmmmm all cars will be required to pull down 55 mpg. Lmao ....yea, so since Obama and his pals managed to drive fuel up around 4 clams a gallon and it would appear that's here to stay....they are gonna ease our pain at the pump by passing huge costs and stupid standards onto auto makers. Uh huh....I'm m sure these new cars will be affordable for us as well.
Hell , it doesn't take vast resources to build a ride that'll do this ...do it? And all of us out here that can't afford a new car? Maybe things are tight on money( naahh...we are all thriving in this economy) or credit has been hit hard because times got bad and bills fell behind.
Since we have to hang on to our older less efficient machines we must be punished. Im sure there's a tax or penalty fee in the works for non compliance with the new standards. Unless of course youapply for an.exemption under some arbitrary federal guidelines ....and pay the fee for it , gotta get those fees. If the ramifications of this type of nonsense doesn't spook you, then leftist brainwashing has erased all analytical thought from your.mind. lol....let the shrill denials and squalling begin.
Yea.....I'm just getting all warm and fuzzy over the US leading the charge into a greener future while punishing the evil oil companies in the process. I ain't no fan of the way big oil runs, in a lot of ways.....but I am less of a fan of government dictating private industry and strangling our free market system.
100% correct and not exaggerated in the slightest. You could actually take out the work "analytical".
This is, indeed, a battle for the future of freedom and against our takeover from within, which has already progressed farther than I once thought even remotely possible without a single shot fired.
Do you have the intelligence to realize that this was an AGREEMENT that was negotiated between the Obama administration and the auto industry?
Do you know what the word NEGOTIATION means? It means two or more groups sit down and present their desired goals and then a COMPROMISE is reached.
I realize that as a Conservative that words like AGREEMENT, NEGOTIATION, AND COMPROMISE may be totally alien concepts to you.
Do you also realize that inceasing fuel economy standard will produce vehicles that are LESS DEPENDENT of fossil fuel, LESS EXPENSIVE TO OWN and will advance automotive technology?
It amazing how you continue to insult your own intelligence with YOUR HATRED.
hahaha good one!
The auto industry "negotiating" with the feds is akin to a Vegas casino negotiating with Lucky Luciano.
Especially given the government ownership position.
Lack of Constitutionality aside;
What makes you think the Obama administration has anyone qualified to dictate engineering standards to the professionals who do it for a living?
And you realize the taxpayers pick up the tab for the resulting R&D, by way of higher vehicle costs?
Keep leading with yer gut instead of your brain, it's what made G W Bush the success that he was.
Proof is in the pudding. Now I'm not going to get into some argument about the EPA here or your ignorant comment as that is not the topic of the thread. Nice try.
A new poll suggests that a majority of Americans – both Democrats and Republicans – support a plan to almost double federal fuel-efficiency standards for automakers by 2025. High gas prices are seen as being behind the trend.
It found that 75 percent of Americans say improving fuel economy standards is important. Sixty-two percent supported federal regulation requiring automakers to meet 60 m.p.g. standards by 2025.

A majority of people across the political spectrum supported such a measure, especially if fuel savings would negate the extra cost of a fuel efficient car within five years of purchase. Sixty-two percent of Republicans were in favor of a 60 m.p.g. standard, and 71 percent of Democrats supported the measure. Independents were the least supportive, with 56 percent favoring the measure.
62 percent of repubs favor it.
71 percent of dems favor it.
56 independent.
its only the partisan right hacks who are against it. and thats only because it was obama who made the deal.

Which is exactly why we don't need legislation or the further politization of the private sector (assuming the poll is accurate).
Consumers should dictate production, not central planners.
