The main problem I have is suggesting that teachers offer assignments related to describing what they could do to "help" the President. Look, if Obama stood up after a national emergency and just tried to calm people down, I'd have less of a problem with this. No preparation time, just speaking off the cuff. I'd swallow that message easier. After the unPatriot act the Obama/Bush team supported and flag@whitehouse e-mail debacle, I have a lot less faith in politicians in general.
GWBs speech was ad hoc and during an emergency. It was not planned way in advance and certainly did not have local schools here in Wake County up in arms about being obligated to show it.
Bush came to one school. That is not a broadcast.
Oh, and your strawman in the 3rd passage was successfully averted.
You're avoiding the question: what would you sheep do if Obama were to do what Bush I did, even at "only one school"? I would say a personal demonstration is far more effective than a broadcast btw.
And that's great! So did I. But, notice, it is YOU who took your children with you, and it is YOU who discussed it with them.
I don't know how old your children are, but if we consider the youngest in this audience, say 4- 5- 6-year olds, they are like sponges. They will retell what they remember, but they most likely won't have a lot of questions. They will simply absorb, and it will be a seed sewn in the subconscious. Kids this age are very impressionable.
Wonder whether anyone has estimated how much this will cost the tax payers. That would be interesting.

They have to be there, to monitor it, to stick the earplugs in little Suzy's ears if Obama says "we all need to work together" or something similar.
I wonder how many of these parents prohibit their kids from being in the room when the 6:00 news is on.
