Of that $1.4 million paid to Perkins Coie in 2009 half ($700,000) was money owed for the 2008 Primary and Presidential runs. There is no indication that payments are anything but normal campaign and transition expenses. McCain, Bush and Kerry also racked up bills in their run. Claiming that the majority of this money is to fight birthers is unfounded.
