Actually, the democrat side would resemble a more European-like model, with healthcare, education, infrastructure etc. The republican side would resemble Somalia..

It pretty much is already. I stay where I am; I am happy here. No immigration solves the problem anyone wanting to move here anyways; so no problem. Refund SS; Medicare and states could join and start their own program as they see fit. There are clear account on individual account in what was paid and used ;so no problem even splitting the pie of each to individuals. The national debt could be spit per person also. Maybe we could start leaving our children a future other than debt.

I'd base my operations in Republican-Land so I can cross the border into Democraptopia and really just take whatever I want.

What are they going to do about it? Draft a complaint on recycled paper?

I think The United States of Democrats would be flooded with refugees from Jesusland. Republican nation would be like apartheid-era South Africa on steroids. Very disturbing thought imagining President Ann Coulter with a nuclear weapon. A Christian version of Iran with 100 million people right on our border is a chilling thought. As happy as I'd be to see the Teabaggers go, it's best for the world if they're in a country where they are diluted by enough sane people to keep another Hitler from coming to power.

That's interesting, because the only Somalia like conditions of which I am aware of in this country are akin to the bombed out democrat ruled ghettos a couple miles from my house. If the country were to split, the democrats would be inheriting all such neighborhoods. Good luck not being Somalia. Perhaps unfettered generosity, social programs, educational funding, and forced integration will solve your future problem. Again, good luck. Perhaps you can save yourselves with open borders and income equality policies. Of course, you'll have to really dumb down that racist higher education while your at it too to accomplish that. We can't have inequality of outcome on your side of the line.

If I was a college student, I'd live on the democratic side until it collapsed from debt.

If I had a good business going, I'd live on the republican side for lower tax rates, no minimum wage, stronger defense.

Why does a country have to "collapse from debt"? Most countries in the world have far stronger social systems than the Democratic party here propose, and are not collapsing from debt.

If businesses need consumers to buy their products and services, then those consumers need the means to get educated, gain skills etc. The current tea bagging nut jobs in the US Congress propose budgets and economics that are akin to the likes of Somalia, Columbia or Pakistan. Having no minimum wage means an ever shrinking buying power of what are, at present, minimum wage jobs - therefore less money moving around lower down the chain. The biggest economic problem in America right now is that too much of its GDP is going to an ever shrinking proportion of its population - therefore shrinking the economy. That won't change until we shore up public spending ion infrastructure, education, R&D etc. We need to pay for it through reducing spending in areas that don't promote growth and increasing taxes on the highest earners. We need to lower corporate taxes but enforce them all (no deductions or loopholes), and we need a higher minimum wage (to stop the taxpayer subsidizing the low wages of corporations).

Which one would you live in?

(BTW, the Republican nation would be a pure Republic, without Medicare/Medicaid and any other Democratically-driven social programs.)
Neither.

The liberal side would look like Detroit in very short order, and the right side would look like hickville.

You need balance.

What makes you think you'd be allowed in?

Although that would be so very Republican, pretending you have no vices while sneaking off to enjoy them somewhere else.
