The left is freaking out about the possibility of corporations buying campaign ads, stupid little campaign ads!!!

And yet the same alarmists have no problem at all that lobbyists and special interest groups, that have donated hundreds of millions to politicians, are in secret meetings behind locked doors with a handful of elite politicians, writing legislation that the president will sign, or has already signed into law!!

Don't mistake being asleep for lack of common sense and dimwittedness.

No sorry everyone's angry about that as well.

Better luck next time.

With our weak economy, will this be America in a few years?

Quote:
The "oligarchs" are a tiny group of entrepreneurs who exploited the disintegration of the Soviet system to loot the treasures of the state and to amass plunder amounting to hundreds of billions of dollars. In order to safeguard the perpetuation of their business, they took control of the state. Six out of the seven are Jews.

In popular parlance they are called "oligarchs" – from the Greek word meaning "rule of the few".

In the first years of post-Soviet Russian capitalism they were the bold and nimble ones who knew how to exploit the economic anarchy in order to acquire enormous possessions for a hundredth or a thousandth of their value: oil, natural gas, nickel and other minerals. They used every possible trick, including cheating, bribery and murder. Every one of them had a small private army. In the course of the series they are proud to tell in great detail how they did it.

But the most intriguing part of the series recounts the way they took control of the political apparatus. After a period of fighting each other, they decided that it would be more profitable for them to cooperate in order to take over the state.

Quote:
The oligarchs decided to take power through him. They had almost unlimited funds, control of all TV channels and most of the other media. They put all these at the disposal of Yeltsin's reelection campaign, denying his opponents even one minute of TV time and pouring huge sums of money into the effort. (The series omits an interesting detail: they secretly brought over the most outstanding American election experts and copywriters, who applied methods previously unknown in Russia.)

Statement from President Obama:

"With its ruling today, the Supreme Court has given a green light to a new stampede of special interest money in our politics. It is a major victory for big oil, Wall Street banks, health insurance companies and the other powerful interests that marshal their power every day in Washington to drown out the voices of everyday Americans. This ruling gives the special interests and their lobbyists even more power in Washington--while undermining the influence of average Americans who make small contributions to support their preferred candidates."

The court's conservative majority, with the addition of Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito, both appointees of then-President George W. Bush, in the ruling made a dramatic change in the campaign finance law designed to regulate the role of money in politics and prevent corruption.

Bu$hit...the gift that keeps on giving!

"The bottom line is, the Supreme Court has just predetermined the winners of next November's election. It won't be the Republican or the Democrats and it won't be the American people; it will be corporate America," Senator Charles Schumer, a Democrat from New York, said.

Yes, Mr Schumer just like they selected Bush for POTUS.

A great decision for the constitution, a bad decision for the left.

Why is it a bad decision for the left but perhaps not the right?

I really wonder, given the possible implications of this ruling, can any of these justices make a ruling like this without a conflict of interest. I'm betting most of them hold stocks in large companies.

This ruling is obviously a gift to corporate America allowing them to buy whomever they want, thus rigging the system in their favor. (blah blah blah unions don't benefit as much because they have been weakened by decades of NAFTA and right to work laws). As a result theres a great potential now for more deregulation, more growth and more "too big to fail" companies. Sounds like a win for any of their stockholders.

I'd like that examined. Yes I know its weak reasoning, but I still think this is just judges ruling for their own gain.

Remember all you cons out there, I know its weak reasoning, but still shouldn't we question them?
