So glad we live within walking distance to our high school, she either walks or I drive her. So far no big issues.

I'm not suggesting their isn't a problem - just suggesting caution for those who want to use the busing issues as proof that the school choice plan is flawed. I think the busing problems are caused by a number of factors - perhaps most significantly the fact that the county has fewer buses but more students.

Drive your kids to school everyday. I did it for my daughter k-12 and we had the best times. You can't buy memories.

I was fortunate to live walking distance from my middle and high school as well. Nothing like a 1.5 mile walk to get the juices flowing in the morning

Bwahahaha! Because I am SO much fun at 6:45 in the am when blearily make my way through the ridiculously long drop off lane, then stagger back to bed for another hour and a half of sleep.

If the school is near a shopping center or something, I almost wonder if it would be faster to park your car and just walk your kid up to the school than sit in the carpool line. All the schools I went to in Wake County though were nowhere near a place you could park and do that. Maybe some of the newer schools have that option?

A topic that generated a fair bit of controversy in the past:

If there were somewhere nearby to park-n-walk I would probably do that, but there's not.

As far as driving for the memories, that gave me a laugh. Their memories would be of me cursing the carpool line that stretches half a mile up the road. When all is said and done the bus gets into the lot faster.

It seems Tedesco bailing to run for Superintendent of Public Instruction was aptly timed.
