yes, thankfully total hospitalizations are down for 3 straight days. I can't say I know what % of hospitals have reported all these days, but I don't recall yesterday's 95% being exceeded. And ICU's down for 2 days.

It's still very troubling to see 2/3+ of admissions being 65+

However we also have seen higher death cases per day.

Am I wrong to assume that the hospitalization daily case rate has been reduced because so many more people have died? That's why I don't get when the media says...."good news the daily covid hospitalization has gone down". Then they say "We had a record breaking day of covid deaths". That is not good news to me and I hope it doesn't continue :-(

Co-worker down in Texas just got his in San Antonio. He's young (under 30) with no extenuating conditions. They've pretty much opened the floodgates. I got an invitation to go to NY to get it. Apparently NY is having to throw out doses as they are spoiling just sitting on the shelves. Not many takers from the first couple rounds and the feds are having a fit. They've opened up eligibility as well. Cuomo finally came out yesterday or today and admitted that if they can't reopen soon, there won't be much left to open.

Apparently the feds have also changed up how they disperse the vaccine. Moving forward states that can actually accomplish the vaccinations will get more doses. Those that want to sit on it will be left in the dust. Nothing like a little motivation to get the government to start moving, ha.

In the UK at the end of the day if there are vaccines left over they go out on a first come, first serve basis.

Most of the states (*cough* NC *cough*) are trying to appease the SJWs and we are left floundering.

Yay USA.

No, it's not because of deaths. I've been meaning to look at this, just put it off...

if NC's data can be trusted, just looking at Jan 1 (hoping maybe the data has been adjusted/updated by now) ...

December 31: 3,481 in hospital
Jan 1: 442 admitted
Jan 1: 3,492 in hospital
Jan 1: 60 deaths

so ... 3,481 in + 442 new - 60 deaths = 3,863 - 3492 actual = 371 discharged on that date.

also of potential interest, the ICU usage...

1/1: 762 in ICU
1/11: 839 in ICU

but over that period of time, we've had about 6,000 new hospitalizations, which says only a small % (despite 2/3 being 65+) are going to the ICU.

****

but now I have to wonder, what is up with the data?

For example, on the NCDHHS page - 7,638 deaths - under Cases-Deaths by Date: NC has never had more than 68 deaths (12/28). I understand they shade the last 9-10 days as more reports come in. But none of these days has exceeded 64.

On Worldometers - 7578 deaths (no big deal) - but they show 5 days over 100 and a 7-day average of 91. I suppose it is a more raw data #, but still, 68 to 166 is a huge gap.

NYT/Hopkins - 7578 deaths - they're also showing a 7-day avg of 91.

as to vaccinations, we've picked up the pace (nationally and NC) a little bit since Friday. Still, not more than 1/3 of vaccines have been injected. About 1/4 in NC which I find appalling given the population concentration among large cities and ease of transportation.

And now, as of yesterday, hospitalizations have now increased 2 days in a row and reached another new high at 3,940. Percent positive test rate jumped to 14.7%.

I noticed that 1b, Group 4 includes teachers and those in student support roles. So how exactly will they determine that? Will you need to verify employment? Example, I teach for a University, does that qualify me? Does the University have to send my information or do I fill out a form?
