Why has the name of the 15 year old been released?

A couple of weeks ago a 17 year old was arrested for murder in Orange County and the sheriff wouldn't release the name because he's a juvenile.

Raleigh Mass Shooting: Update

Nicole Connors (and her dog)
Susan Karnatz
Mary Marshall
RPD Officer Gabriel Torres
James Thompson, the shooter's 16 yr old brother

As far as I know, the shooter is still in critical condition after a failed suicide attempt.
I looked her up first, and found news video talking to her husband. He said the kid was his neighbor. Never had any interaction. So this punk shot at people he knew - at least his brother and this lady.

There's trails everywhere around here. It's the most normal thing to do - walk or run, with or without a dog - and you shouldn't be gunned down doing something so fricken normal! Not hurting anyone, just out for a damn walk around a trail.

Punk brat. (Nicest way I can put it for the forum.) This boils my blood. These people did nothing to him!

No idea but one of the victims was his brother so any cover was already blown there

15 year old kid gets access to a firearm. Gee, what could possibly go wrong?

People want to have their firearms, but the reality is some don't take the utmost care to make sure that firearm is fully and entirely protected from someone else in the house (like a minor child) accessing that firearm and ammunition. The responsibility rests with the adult(s) who choose to have a firearm on the premises.

I hate to be insensitive, but how do parents just keep missing this ish?

Your kid is clearly in need of mental health help (I myself started therapy in February and as an almost 40 year old, have way more developed coping skills than a teen does).

Chits whack. Sympathies to those who lost loved ones. Wish we could stop this from happening but pragmatic solutions we don't have.
Its not as easy as you think to get a kid help. During covid it was nearly impossible. I am trying to get a kid help and on a 6 month to year wait list.

I’d look around fellow poster. We got my kid a therapist in less than a week (from call to first appointment).

Have the police released this suspect’s name? Or only the media?

I don't think it was the police. I read that sources confirmed the shooter's name, so I suspect that it may have been neighbors or individuals aware of the details.

It really was horrible during the pandemic. And still, a major pediatric psychiatry clinic I called recently had at least a 6 to 9 month wait, and that was an improvement over last year.

WRAL is reporting the name of the shooter. One of the victims was his older brother, who was a junior in Knightdale High.
