That's two questions.

I bought my first home in 1977 for $27,500. I was 31.

I'd been on my own since age 19.

18. But not a house. A very nice 2 acre bare lot and I lived in a travel trailer. It took a couple of years to build a really tiny house without taking out a mortgage.

Bought my first house back in 1987 when I was 30. The house was a fixer at $107K with a 10% down payment (with a 9.5% ARM mortgage).

6 months later I sold it for $175K. A ROI at 730%.

Left home at 18 for the military but didn't buy a home ($4,800) until I was 23.

We were 28 and 29--3 years out of grad school and about 6 weeks away from our first baby arriving.

I bought my first house when I was 19. Unfortunately I was young and stupid, and got into a bad relationship, and ended up losing that house. It was a learning experience, and I'm much wiser now.
