I'd much rather kick my mate's butt at a hardcore game of Scrabble than go out to a club, or bar... or whatever. Eh. Again, don't like it, don't date me. haha
Besides, "nerds" keep life so much more interesting than the average 9-5 white collar types. Nerds are unpredictable. I like unpredictability.

This is enlightening. Never thought of the distinction.
A nerd is not as pejorative as dork. A nerd would be "the Verizon guy" - "Can you hear me now?" http://www.specsappeal.net/bi/verizon1.jpg
A dork is closer to being unsalvageable.
I wouldn't really classify nerds as salvage material though. I like em as is.
My definitions:
Nerds- are more multifaceted in the POI realm and rake home the cash with the marketable knowledge. They know how to dress nicely if they have to. On the clean side. Socially functional at basic levels but not a social butterfly.
Dorks- ocd narrow interests to a fiend level, probably living in mom's basement, socially awkward with most everyone but tries to be cool/popular/whatever

I was going to say, such traits aren't the mark of a nerd at all. Nerds are content in staying/hiding in the back of a room. They will never go get out front and go after things. Their interests are usually not high on the list of "must see" or "must do" for the masses either. In a sense, they use their brains too much to over think things. This becomes a problem when they start boring people around them that don't or don't want listen to them anymore. They have a hard time keeping peoples interest and attention often. You either have it, or you don't. It's just that simple.

Yes which is why nerds don't go initiating conversations with people. It's others who initiate convos with them then get annoyed when they find them "boring". These people should blame themselves instead of the nerds.

You can't blame the people who are more outgoing and it SHOWS. You can always back a nerd into a corner. They don't know where to go, or how to get out of it when it's LIVE and "in your face".
